Help me tune my 95 Civic...

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

Love the forums.

I've got a Kenwood Excellon Z828 deck, two 1998 Diamond Audio Motorsport 5.25" components with the tweets backed of -4, tweets in the grill panels, running off a PPI PC4400 C amp and two JL 10W0's in a Power Wedge box up against the back seat.

The passive crossovers are @ 55hz, but that's WAY too low for them. The sound good between 80-100Hz, and the subs sound best at 80 or below. I'm using the 12db/oct x-overs in the amp.

In this car, what are the resonant frequencies? I listen to electronic and rock (311!!!). So, getting the bass guitar to sound clear and phat is a chore.

I have standing wave pads behind the speakers, the wiring was done right at BSI car stereo in memphis back in the day...

Any suggestions? Crossover points? NEW TWEETERS? New speakerS? Can I do 6.5"s in the doors without mods? I'm not using rear fill, actually removed the rears to port the bass into the cabin.

With 12db/oct crossovers, I feel I need a bit of a gap (fronts @ 80, sub @60?) but I don't want holes. I really need someone with experience tuning a civic with front stage and 10's only to chime in. Thanks!

My right side Diamond 5.25 blew and took the tweeter with it after 10 years!

Can 6.5"s be installed in a 95 civic without modification?

My 04' civic needed very little modification, an mdf spacer will be a necessity, and possibly making the hole in the car slightly bigger to fit the 6.5. Nothing you couldn't tackle yourself.

Now it's which ones to get...Looking to spend $200-$400.

Diamond Hex (Silk), Rainbow SLC, what else?

I listen to Rock, Jazz, Reggae, Drum 'n Bass, Metal (Meshuggah!!!) you name it.

Anyone want to chime in on speakers that have "wow-ed" you?

I am also keen on hearing about DIY, I don't give a DAMN about names. It's all about sound!

Hybrid Audio Clarus.

Any DIY sets that compare to them for the money? Don't think anyone around here has them so I can demo...
