Zapco DC reference 650.6

Recommended Posts

I have an 08 Jeep patriot that will most likely be seeing a Hybrid Audio Legatia L8/L1 pro combo up front and a single sub in the rear. I have been weighing my options and I am curious.

I am going for a stealth install, so basically you will see the amp.

I'll be using the factory 6 cd head-unit so my options are this amp, an h701/rux-c701 combo or a rockford fosgate 360.2. The sub section will be one 8" sub seeing 360 watts at 4 ohms.

Which option would you go with if your goal was awesome sq from a stealth install using factory head-unit, factory mounting locations etc...

Would you keep the Rux connected to the H701? or would you tune and disconnect?

The H701 is probably a little overkill for what you're doing (overkill for me too, but I already have an alpine controller).

If you look solely at MSRP, the H701/C701 is $150 more than the 360.2. But it'll let you do more.

Right, but the amp is active capable. It would cost me less to use the zapco amp and loose time alignment. I could hook the amp up to my laptop to set the crossovers and all of that fun stuff. It would be smaller than side by side sax-100.4's etc...

I'm just curious as to what else I am giving up by using my factory head-unit with this amp versus line-output converters to rca's to an h701.

oh... I've never messed with that amplifier before.

The 360.2 has a TON of EQ and of course the bluetooth feature is awesome.

The H701 has more features than I can list easily. I should probably just go look up that amp.. thinking aloud here.

I have toyed around with the 360.2 and the h701. But seeing as this isn't an SQ comp vehicle, just an awesome sounding daily driver; I am hesitant to spend over 600$ in processing, if this amp is capable of handling what I am looking for.

Looks like you give up a lot of EQ bands. Not that you'd need the 31/27 that the RF offers.. but its still nice to be able to tweak infinitely. 8-10 should be sufficient.

You still have time alignment though, so thats nice. I didn't know about those amps, good find.

I stopped by Audio Obsessions yesterday to get quotes for my brothers truck and the owner was there. He told me to go upstairs and look at some of his new inventory (audison/hertz/ the new image dynamics stuff/ and this lone zapco amp I saw sitting in the corner). So while I was snooping around (and making sure my 2005 Diamond D7 amp was still sitting hidden in a corner up there) I grabbed the zapco box and brought it downstairs to look at.

I know zapco is good stuff and all. I like the idea of doing a single amp install in my stealth build as well. I also love the idea of grabbing my laptop and using digital crossovers etc. It looks like it will be a fun toy, now if I can just figure out if those 8" subs will fit in my rear doors.

I'd just use the 650.6 onboard proc and see how everything is, why spend anything until then anyways?

I'm going subless. So the zapco 650.6 will be perfect. My entire sound system is going to be composed of morel elate 9 3-ways. 20-25k hz covered and all in factory mounting positions as well. Now I just need to start saving up the dough.

No more Hybrid? :(

As previously mentioned I have a few friends in the local area. I'm not bashing Hybrid audio, but I will be looking for a true SQ car for those speakers. The Elate's 20hz bottom end on the woofer makes a sub not necessary and I like to support all of my car audio friends as often as possible. If it wasn't for Adam and Audio Obsessions, I wouldn't be where I am today.

Combined with the DC 650.6 should be something very sweet.

I'll do my best next summer to get the car out to as many people on the east coast as possible. Representing Audio Obsessions and SSA. I also have a project in the works for the rest of my supporters, it will be built around the same time as this car.
