08 Tahoe needs a 15 inch enclosure

Recommended Posts

I own the following items:

http://www.kaptionaudio.com/manuals/SPLManual.pdf ( I have the 15 inch)

http://www.kaptionaudio.com/manuals/KaptionD-Class.pdf (biggest amp they make)

I am trying to build a loud, clean system. The dimensions and information are in the pdf for the sub. Now, I listen mostly to rap, some rock but mostly rap and otherwise a mixed back. I believe sealed is the way to go because I like the clean, clear bass...

I will be leaving in the third row of seating in, but have it flipped up (or maybe I should take it out). I need to use the space above the sub for the transfer of some goods etc...

Should I center the sub, put it towards the rear seats or the rear window? Has anyone here done an install of 1 - 15 in a Tahoe?

I have not personally done much work in Tahoe's, but plenty in SUV's. First off, what is your goal from the subwoofer? As for enclosure type, you can get clean clear bass from ported variants too. But personally I would start with sealed enclosure suggestion and face the sub woofer towards the rear of the vehicle while moving the back of the enclosure as close as possible to the rear of the seats.

Thanks for the info. I keep thinking I want to fire the sub upwards, is that no good? What is the difference firing the sub up versus back? Upward allows me to use my rear space still... I am trying to get a clean, clear addition to my system. I want little, or no rattle (hence the fear of firing backwards) and just clean, deep notes.

My friend has 2 15"s in his 07 tahoe. They took out 1 of the third row seats and faced it toward the

seat next to it but at an upward angle. It is a sealed box running I think the older JL w3 versions.

Sounds great and I do not recall much-none rattles.

Good luck with the setup and the Tahoe they are beautiful!
