PR box for a car set-up??

Hey guys, just wondering what your input was about passive radiator boxes used in car set-ups??? I used to have a set-up of 2 12" VMax(the red older surround version) with 2 AE speaker 1050g PR's and its lows were pretty amazing. However, I had to have a pretty large box to utilize them like I did. Are there any advantages to me trying to use these PR's in say a SQ set-up or are there better alternatives out there?

the only PR setup iv seen was the Boston 2x 10" with 2x 10"PR

had weights you can add or subtract to change freq:

it was in a SMALL SEALED enclosure,

sounded Great

but for me it was lacking in the BooM department

not that its a bad thing ! just was what it was

Yeah, I mean its definitely not a boom box, but it does do pretty incredible in the low end. I think my box had its F3 at like...15Hz or something crazy like that. It outdid most other subs on songs with lower end even though they were just some cheap VMax's.

There's really no need in a car.

The big advantage of PR's is to be able to get the enclosure to peak extremely low, while keeping the overall size of the enclosure smaller than a traditional bass reflex because the port lengths would get massive.

IMO, they're not really needed in a car because you have a lot of cabin gain down below 30Hz anyway, so having a subbass setup that has a peak down there is only going to make things sound very bottom-heavy.

In a room, however, it's a different story...

I use a PR setup in my car right now. It does great, and i get trunk space.
