one 12" BL or one 12" BTL?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering which setup would fit better. i currently have a kicker 750.1 and i was planning on gettting a fully loaded 12" duel one ohm sub and running it at 2 ohm. I was wondering if that amp would be enough. If not then I plan on getting a fully loaded BTL 12" duel one ohm sub and running it with a Lanzar2000D. Thats supposed to put our 2000watts @ 0.5 ohms CEA rated. Which setup would work out better?

you haven't told us anything yet about the vehicle or what your plans are for the system. that being said, I can eliminate the BTL right now. I dont know why people just wanna jump strait to something that will be sub par ( not a pun ) for their design limits. Why not try something better suited for you like: SSD, Q, ICON, or the like?

what's wrong with what he asked? That doesnt' eliminate the BL right away. just because he "only" has 750 watts, instead of the 1000 watts RMS that it is? You don't have to run it at full RMS. And why wouldn't the BTL work? He said he'd step up to 2000 watts for it, so it would be just fine power-wise under your power restriction idea. why do you think a Q or Icon would be better?

That all being said, the BTL would be louder off 2000 watts than the BL on 750 given a relatively equal setup. The BL may sound a bit better.

i have an Optima yellow top model D51 under the hood and a kinetik HC2400 in the trunk. They are running off a 180 amp iraggi alternator. I have 0 gauge throughout my vehicle including the Big 3 in 0 gauge. its a 2003 civic lx coupe. my in dash has a 6 volt preamp output. thats about all i know about my system. planning on getting 2 sets of MB Quart premium series component systems and running them with a kicker 250.2

I would say with your current amp it would be better matched with a SSD 12 in a ported box or maybe a stock BL. With a fully loaded BL you would want to run about 1500 watts to it and you wouldn't be getting the full potential with only 750 watts. The main question is how much are you wanting to spend and what are your really wanting out of your system. you have the electrical to support a larger amp with the BTL. going with the SSD would be a lot less expensive and you may be surprised at the output you get with it or it may tide you over until you can upgrade to the BTL.

He didn't really say anything wrong. My point was people jump strait for the biggest series of drivers and try to cut corners somewhere else. If a BTL is the choice, send it clean power with a quality amplifier aswell. His choice of amp for the btl is not a wise one imo that's all.

Now that I know you have a sufficient electrical, if you decide to go with BTLs, all I ask is look into a better quality amp. everything else seems really good to me

He didn't say what Lanzar he has.. If it's the OptiDrive.. you don't get much better imo.

Yea. actually it is the opti 2000D. I wouldnt mess with any of their other stuff. its crap. i'm looking for something louder and tighter than my last setup, which was a matts dreadnaut 18" with a memphis 1000D

If you have the electrical backbone to support 2000w, then go with the BTL setup.
