Look at this box design...Opinions Please!

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys.....I have recently purchased a SAZ 1500D and it's powering 2 Powerbass ES 15's in a sealed box. I'm now interested in getting more sound than what I've got now that I have more power.

Here's my existing box.

I've talked to a guy who's been doing car audio installs for many years. Being that I've got a trunk car and my back seat doesn't lay down, he thought this would be a good design. He said it basically takes all the bass out of my trunk and directs it into my cabin. It sounds like a good idea but I'd just like to get more opinions. It would be with my existing 15's.

Here's the box design. It's 7 cubes net and has a 3.3 cube down chamber with an 8 X 19 rear deck opening. It's tuned to 35.

Bump....Anybody?

That seems more complicated than it needs to be. Try a simple ported box, if designed and built properly you will be very happy with the outcome.

Well...One thing about this box that I was interested in is that it takes the bass out of my trunk. If I go with a standard ported box, that means I'll need to put some sound deadener to help with rattles....

That box design will not keep your trunk from rattling, the bass may be directed into the cabin but that does not mean the rest of the trunk will not vibrate.

That's a 6th order bandpass. I guess you will be doing a blowthrough on your rear deck?

While that will put the sound directly into your cabin, it will just make everything inside rattle even more. Go ahead and at least do some light sound deadening. It will sound much better without all of your body panels vibrating.

Yeah, it'll have an 8 X 19 rear deck opening.....I guess I'd like to know if someone has used this design in a trunk car and did it perform better than a ported box???

How do you figure it's tuned to 35 hz?

Hmmm......I do understand I'll still have some vibration but since the subs will actually be sealed inside the box, I'm sure the trunk rattles will be significantly reduced....

According to the guy who designed it, that is what it will be....

a final tuning of 35hz, with 15s? that's a bit high, but it should increase your output.

have him build it, sounds like a good plan. and if it doesn't work, try something else. but as mentioned above, i'd put atleast a single layer on the car. also, that current box is awful small looking for a pair of 15s. what's the specs on that?

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:
