Sundown Amps Made in America?

Recommended Posts

In a way, Americans have done this to themselves by driving up the cost of living so high.

Off topic.

If i can quote Chuck Palahniuk for a second "Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy Sh*t we don't need."

America, Generally speaking, has been on a spending binge for the last 15 - 20 years. "I cant afford it" is the 4 letter word of my generation. I welcome a recession with open arms. How else will people learn?

dude ur on a car audio forum lol, did u kno that? i just thought it was kind of ironic...

they prob need the jobs more than we do, i would be pissed too if i got laid off but guess what i could just drive down the street and get another one.... just think, it could be u workin in that sweatshop but no ur sittin on ur high dollar computer bitchin.

No offense, but you missed the point completely. For one, the jobs i work, i cant just drive down the street and get another one. Honestly, I wish i could. I wasn't laid off from McDonald's. Two, It's hardly a high dollar computer. Ancient by anyone's standards and about a third of the button's are missing. Even so, i still make a half decent effort to use proper punctuation and spelling.

On the note of TRU and products still Made in the USA.

99% of the semiconductors still come from Asia

Many of the PCB boards will still come from Asia

Many other components will also come from Asia

It's just the reality of our global economy.

As for making an alternative American line - I'd love to. But, the reality is that the economy won't allow it. I listen to people complain about the "high" prices on my existing products already, every day.

Just as with the SD-1 v.2 line... people throw out the "Made in USA" part and compare prices to products made in China. For every 1 person who wants to buy an American made product for double the cost there are 1000 that would rather have a cheaper product. It even holds true with South Korea vs. China... which is why my SAE line is being moved to China, for those not even willing to pay the Korean price (ALOT of people won't even pay that).

Steve I am really sad to hear about how you lost your job. And I agree with you on your feelings about USA jobs and workers. I agree with your feelings. But due to the high costs to build things these days very little is actually built here. There are a few amps that say they are American made, but what is really happening is the boards are punched and filled overseas and then they are shipped here and assembled here. Heck, most of US Amps are not even made here. But if you want to look at it this way, for Americans, Jacob and his US dealers are helped when Sundown sells an amplifier. :)

I very much agree. Our economy is in the crapper for reasons like this. Yes, I know our jobs are going over seas for cost savings reasons, but is it really saving us financially, as people? The CEO's are the only one's reaping the fat cat benefits. One man's millions, or billions is costing us jobs in the end. If there are no jobs for us, how can we buy a brand new SAZ-3000D, even at $500 new? I wouldn't buy it because with no jobs, I need that cash for food and bills. Only those that sit at the very top are benefiting from all this. I say tax the crap out of every so-called American product that is produced outside of the U.S. to the point that it would be equal cost to just produce it here. Yes, we would pay higher for that same product, but those tax dollars "should" come back to us (the people), provided that you can hang all the crooks that swindle our tax dollars here in the U.S....

Whew... I'm tired now... lol

The only problem right now is that only are you(american manufacturing) dealing with the chinese, but also the India's and stuff coming up. Think about this, China probably has the world's largest population use of bicycles. They (China) has now, "offshored" most of the manufacturing of those to India because of cheaper to produce.

At the plant where I work at we had a layoff today. 50 people let go out of 380. And another planned around the end of Jan. One of our biggest customers decided to go "offshore".

The problem is that CEO's and executives are paid such exorbitant salaries with stocks and bonuses that they literally make thousands of times more than the employees that work for them. How does someone like Bob Nardelli, the ex ceo of Home Depot get away with making $250 MILLION in one year? His executives collectively made many times that, some estimates placing the top 18 people in the company pocketing 4 billion total in a year. $250 million is a chitload of money for one person and this kind of thing makes a direct impact on the prices you pay for a company's product. The small business owner like Jacob should be able to take enough to live well on his product sales and still be well off but there is no real reason for the big guy to do that too. The extreme corporate sponsored public robbery that is perpetrated by the Bob Nardellis of the world is a main reason why prices are inflated the way they are. Greed is the reason why the economy is heading down the chitter and it's our own fault for allowing it. If this system was evened out, we would be able to make products in this country and make them adffordable.

Ditto... the greed of the upper echelon is the key reason, but where there is a loop hole, they are sure to exploit it to the point, that would allow pallets full-o-cash to slip by. They simply exploit the legal loop holes and can care less of morality in general. Trust me, with just $1 mil, I would be able to retire just fine and live above my means.

But seriously, $250 mil a year, plus bonuses?!?!?!..... That is the foundation of everything going wrong today. They thrive to keep everything out of balance financially, and do everything they can to NOT be in the real world. I'm no socialist, but I do know that the top cats need to have caps on pay and restrictions on "options" along with the perks and benefits they get, etc... Profits need to be shared / distributed with the workers because it is "US" (the people) that keeps them successful. This would boost morale and increase spending, thus stimulating our economy. We work the jobs and put in the hours, and it is "US / WE" that buy the goods from them...

The blatant greed of these CEO's makes me sick... Make me the CEO, and millions, if not billions of PEOPLE will love what I would do... make things RIGHT.

To keep this on the actual topic here in the Sundown section, if Sundown amps weren't produced in Korea the company wouldn't exist at all. Nobody would buy them with the cost it would take to produce them here in the USA. Americans in general want the cheapest product possible. That's why you see so many swarming towards amps like the GP3000Dpro. It's not the best in quality but it's the cheapest.

As for Sundown, I guarantee you that Jacob isn't living fat off 250million a year w/ bonuses and flying around in jets. He dumps every bit of money he can afford back into this company to make more and better products for the consumer. He also tightly regulates the selling of his product through dealers in order to help put money into the local economy instead of some other factory direct companies where only one man at the top gets paid. Sure there is added cost with the dealer mark up but it helps support your local economy by purchasing from your local dealer/rep. Again though, most people don't care about supporting their local dealer or economy. They just want it the cheapest they can get.

Jacob also builds his NightShades right here in America. He does try to support the american economy in every way possible. The more NightShades ya'll buy the more jobs you create right here in America.

YES I agree 10000000000%

Prices are a big factor on what consumers decide to purchase. If my Sundown amps werent priced like they are currently, I would have never bought them...

I would LOVE IT if I could make my amps right here in America.

Maybe one day the economic tides will change and I can build them in my own factory - would be fantastic to have full control over everything.

Jacob sells amps back to china and korea, So lets say he builds 10 1 watt amps @ a cost of $0.50 per amp ($5.00) imported. and sells 8 of the ten amps back to china or korea @$1.00 ($8.00)this means he brought $3.00 extra dollars back to America to respend back into our economy by sponsoring meca or giving discounts to team members or running sales . Just thinking outside the box for what its worth :wacky:

You bring up another good point. Jacob does a lot to help support the competition scene like helping sponsor MECA finals. I've been to two recent events where he gave away an amplifier. He also competes in a few different organizations and tried to promote events. It may seem like little stuff but it all adds up and it's more than I see some other companies doing. It's cool to have someone like him there to talk with people & answer questions. It's like an advertising point for the events "Come out and meet Jacob Fuller, owner of Sundown Audio."

I have yet to buy anything from any type of audio company, but I just wanted to say that I will definitely be going with Sundown for amps and possibly subs too. A long while ago I got word of his company and the way Jacob goes about business, and it definitely is reassuring to be able to interact with a good person who has excellent customer service and knowledge. It's a sad thing that we can't have more US production plants and assembly lines but due to the current economic situation and of years past, there is just no way for some companies to afford to make in the USA but the quality is a big issue, and that's where Sundown has it locked down.

For what its worth, i think the Zenon products are about as good as you can get for the monoblocks and "regular" amps - i would love to see a Akaya/Abyss made high end SQ sundown, with jacobs fantastic crossover design implemented - and a tube or the like. Would be fantastic. :D

I would suggest talking to Stephen Mantz and see what he has to say about TRU amplifiers and what you get for the money. I know some people get an air of arrogance because they have TRU amps in their car, but if they only knew more about them. ;)

Quote from Officer Steve

"Somewhere, someone counts on me to buy a product he or she builds just to keep them employed. Now its my choice, I can get one built by George Walker, in Greenbo, AL or someone with a name i cant say...

Ill take George."

George will know what the product is and will probably have one in his car. Unspeakable name person doesn't know much about the product, has never seen anyone with one and will never be able to afford one. To them it's something they make for rich Americans far away.
