1999 Chevy Blazer ZR2

Recommended Posts

I've waited til I accumulated almost all of the parts before making this build log.

This is my 1999 Chevy Blazer ZR2:

I got it right around 2 months ago, and have been slowly accumulating audio parts for it. I took care of the important things first (fluid flushes, new hoses, new filters, oil change, fix rear differential leak, etc) so it took a bit longer than expected. The truck itself has a 2" shackle drop and nearly as much torsion bar crank and 31" Cooper STTs. I haven't had the time to take her off-road yet, but that's going to change very soon :).

The equipment list is as follows:

  • Sundown SAX 100.2
  • Sundown SAE-1000D
  • SSA Icon 15D2
  • Polk MOMO 6.5" Components
  • Alpine CDA-9811 (Soon to be upgraded)
  • Kicker 0 ga. Hyperflex, 16 ga. speaker wire, K-series interconnects, battery terminals
  • Optima Yellowtop
  • 125 sq.ft RAAMmat
  • 4 yards Ensolite

Pics of equip:

(Apparently I never took pics of the headunit or subwoofer...so I'll add those once I get the speakers on Saturday.)

The box for the sub will hopefully be built in the next few days. It's going to be 4 ft^3 @ 30hz.

Sound deadening starts tomorrow, but I got a call from the vet with my dog's blood work-up and it's not good :( He has to be put down tomorrow so I don't know how far I'm going to get.

Sorry to hear that, I had to put my dog down not to long ago due to a inoperable tumor.

Good luck on your build, I will be following it :)

Alright, I snapped some pics of the ICON and the headunit. I haven't gotten too much in the way of progress of sound deadening as I'm caught at yet another snag. One of the torx bolts for the seat belt on the driver side was already stripped...and I found a LOC hanging off one of the rear speakers as well as the RCAs and a REM wire...

Alpine CDA-9811, currently in my beater while the ZR2 is sidelined

And the problems/progress thus far:

My buddy's bringing over a pair of huge vice grips which should be enough to get the torx bit out. If not, I'll drill it out and tap a new hole. I'll be working all through the night and morning trying to get this done before my dad gets back home from Ohio.

No pix but I got the front seating area fully deadened and I have both the walls deadened. I've still got over a full roll left, and I'm down to about 1/3 of a roll right now. It seems that I've only used ~40 sq.ft right now. I've got a full layer over half the floor and a full layer on each side of the wall. Does this seem normal or should I probably have another layer on the floors?

it all depends on what u want

if u have extra i would use it on the floor

but that is just me

Did you try playing music without dropping the headliner first to see what it was like? I was hoping to avoid dropping the liner; I imagine it will be a pain. I've got the sun/moonroof and the overhead console so I don't know if it's going to be worth the extra effort.

My 'peakers showed up today :)

(Yes, I am going to be running them passive.)

I've got the floor and the walls deadened and ensolite'd. I plan on having the door pins and bushings replaced before putting in the speakers as they have to take the doors off anyway. I'll be running RCAs and power wire tomorrow/Monday and most likely building the box Monday as well.

Well I got the box built, and I'm happy with it :) 3.7 ft^3 @ 30 hz.

I used the dupli-color truck bed liner and I'm thoroughly disappointed. It didn't cover well at all...flat black paint would have been just as good. The Blazer is in the shop right now getting the doors fixed...I'll snap a few pics of the install and the box fully painted later on tonight or tomorrow.

Looks like it is going to be an awesome setup.

Duplicolor works great for me. A lot better than that plast-o-crap walmart sells now.

Spray the duplicolor from about 6" away to get good coverage. Then, back up about 18" and hit it with a second coat for a good texture. . .

That could be where I went wrong; I used the roll-on stuff.

Amp rack (need to clean up wires...possibly make a false floor to get them off the box)

Wow...It's been a long time since I've been here! I'm still running the same equipment I've had except I finally got those amps off the box. The BlaZeR2 looks a lot different, however.

Amps off the box and bolted to the floor.

I've decided I'm going to try and fiberglass a cover to make it look like the opposite side panel w/ the jack cover, thusly keeping a nice, stock look.

I used Raptor spray-on bedliner and I'm very, very happy with it! I also debadged the doors of the "LS" logo and the BLAZER emblems.

Then came the CB

New billet grill :)

It also has dual exhaust (Magnaflow hi-flo cat to a FM40 single in/dual out) but it's not very pictureworthy (no tips :P ).

Well, I finally bit the bullet and decided I wanted my cargo space back. That meant the 15" had to go. I've replaced it with a 10" Dayton Audio Reference High Output driver. It's going into a 1 ft^3 sealed enclosure that was spray-bedlined with Raptor Bedliner.

New Setup:

This side will be against the wall and bolted down so it'll never be seen.

Here's the finished product:

I'm looking to add another wall for support and to look a bit sleeker below the SAX100.2 as well as a hidden one in the back under the 1000D.
