Installed SAZ 1500D...Now Engine Noise???

Recommended Posts

Hey Guys....I recently installed a SAZ 1500D and I am now experiencing engine noise (a buzzing type of sound). I can unplug the RCA's from the SAZ and it goes away. I was told that I should ground both of my amps in the same place and that might help...Well, I've done that and it hasn't helped. Prior to installing the SAZ I had a JL Audio 500/1 and it didn't have any noise. I've even ugraded my BIG 3 and also ran some 1/0 gauge since installing the amp thinking that may help....But the noise still remains. The RCA's are new and I cannot imagine why they would make any noise since they didn't with my previous amp....Is there a possibility that the SAZ has something wrong? It was a B-Stock amp that I brought from dB-r....

***Just in case you ask what type of head unit I have, it is a Pioneer DEH-P6000UB

I doubt its a problem with the amp. You said yourself when you unplug the RCA's the noise goes away. Sounds like a head unit problem to me. Try regrounding that instead.

change your rcas out after that

use an extra pair of RCA's, pull the HU and see if changing them eliminates the problem. If not re-ground the HU

Also check and make sure if ur RCA's ends are tight if they are screw on. They may be loose.

Thanks Guys...I was just on SMD forum and saw where some people using Pioneer HU's will put a piece of wire on one of the RCA's behind the radio and then ground it to the deck..see this link: SMD Forum...I'm gonna try that first and then I'll then look at re-grounding the radio and lastly replacing the RCA's.....

not if the rca's are shielded you won't.

It's best practice to do that but sometimes it's impossible and those are times where shielded rcas come into play.

Well....I just went outside and tried putting a wire on the sub amp RCA's and also the front stage amp RCA's and the sound still was there....I guess I'm gonna need to do some more digging....

I forgot to mention that it just seems odd that this problem didn't exist with the amp I just took out......

Myth. Your whole vehicle is a ground wire.

Check your battery connections as well. Remember that you may not have had the noise with the other amp because it was drawing less current. I am inclined to believe it is an RCA or head unit grounding issue.

Yeah, that makes sense....I also forgot to mention it makes noise when the car isn't running.....I'll be checking the radio ground first since that doesn't cost anything. I don't have an extra set of RCA's so I'd have to go to a friends house and borrow his if the radio ground doesn't fix it....

damn it, you beat me to it!! lol..

so grounding the rcas didn't help? while checking your battery connections, check the battery. it acts as a noise filter, and if it's bad/going bad due to the new power being pulled from it, that could be some of the issue.

Hmmm....Let me also mention one more thing...I only attached the ground wire to one of the RCA's....Do you think I should try attaching a separate wire to each one?? Also, when I was wiggling on the RCA's I noticed that the sound would change???? I'd sure hate to replace the RCA's since these are nice one's (Tsunami Elite Series)

are you using the sub out (if the headunit has one)? if so, the output from it and the input on the amp should both be summed. meaning, basicly a single channel of output, input. but i'd ground both to see. wouldn't hurt. even good rcas go bad.

also, USamps had a problem like this. so it might not be rca induced, but rather (because this amp is a b stock), the inputs could have a weak ground inside, thus causing the noise. simply grounding the rcas will fix that though.

keep us updated.

Hey....I've been gone all day....Well....Here's an update. I went to a local car stereo shop and had them check it. They plugged in a new set of RCA's and the sound got quiter but not completely gone....So....I was told that I probably still have a group loop issue since the sound is coming thru my front stage amp only when the sub amp is hooked up. I'll go to Wal-Mart and buy the Scosche ground loop isolator and see if that helps and if not, then I can just return it.....

Not the biggest fan of the Ground Loop Isolator either, but I have had them work before.

Yep, fix your grounding problems instead. Are you using the stock ground for your headunit? If so, change it quick.

Well....I just installed the Scosche ground loop isolator on the RCA's on my Sub amp.....Now I have ZERO noise....I'm not sure why people say they are a bad idea?? I am not able to hear any difference in how my subs sound....So, I'm gonna say that it worked great for me :-)

Now I'm thinking I'll test it with the RCA's I originally had to make sure that I don't have any engine noise with them....If so, I'm gonna call the car stereo shop and see if they'll allow me to return the one's the just installed....I'd hope so since their solution didn't completely work....
