Clarion DXZ785USB

Recommended Posts

Alright ive been messing around with this unit for the past two weeks. It has all the features i was looking for. It has a built in three -way crossover so i can go active later on and it allows the internal amp to be turned off which is nice. The crossover roll off is pretty steep i dont remember what it is off the top of my head.

Pros: Tons of features for the price. Color changing screen. Best sounding unit ive messed with yet (Panasonic 7203, pioneer avh-5700dvd, jvc-kdavx1, and a few other units). Internal amp can be shut off. Six 6 volt preouts. Ipod direct connect or thumb drive.

Cons:The equalizer leaves much to be desired. The volume is controlled by a slider instead of a knob. The screen is kinda hard to see during the day even with 5% tint.

Overall I would rate it at a 9/10. It is an EXCELLENT budget deck. It by no means will compete with the higher end eclipse units or anything like that, but i would put it up against any other deck in the 200-300 dollar range easy. TONS of features and sounds great. Its easy to navigate I really like this unit.

I by no means have golden ears or anything like that. This is my subjective opinion and views.

No bandpass on the x-overs, not something I'd use for an active setup without extra processing.

I've had this HU for awhile now and very pleased with it myself.

Regarding the X-over slopes, they can be switched from Through, 6, 12, and 18db per oct WHEN you choose 2-Way or 3-Way mode in Audio Setup. In Normal Mode, there are fewer x-over freqs and the slopes are set at 12db/oct.

And yes for an active setup, the HU is fully capable, with Hi and Low pass for mids and subs, and Hi pass for the highs. For all channels you can also switch phase and apply Digital Time Alignment, as well as Speaker Gain Adjustment.

The EQ can be switched from simple B/T (Bass 80Hz, and Treble 10kHz) to a 3 band Parametric Eq with adjustable center freq's and Q.

Overall a great HU. The "Slidetrack" interface is a little awkward, and I'd prefer it had the traditional rotary knob, but it's easy to get used to and the features make up for it.

do you find the controls to be rather easy to get adjusted to?

i was looking into getting this HU last year (still haven't gotten one yet) but the slidetrak turned me away a little.

the slidtrak is very intuitive and easy to use. controll of my ipod is very simple. im not missing the knob at all.

i havent gone into setting up active yet but i suspect its easy to do. i figured out how to change the color and other simple things without looking the the manual.

no problem to report either.

if you have any specific question please ask.
