Double 3/4" mdf?

Recommended Posts

My question is, is it worth it to double up on 3/4" mdf on all sides, or should i just strengthen the side holding the sub?

18" Fi Bl--- p chamfer and flatwind

39"x18"x22" (sub is on 39x22 side) tuned to 34.4xxx hz

any suggestions?

thanks.

also, this is a daily driver, not going to a termlab anytime soon, just want it to be a good, solid setup for daily driving.

it doesnt hurt too but it also doesnt take the place of bracing either.

It prevents flex better than single layer but bracing is still necessary.

what's your favorite way to brace then? I've seen some people just cut 2x4s and that seems like it'd take up a lot of volume...

double 3/4" the speaker mounting side,

2x4's for bracing, seems to be popular.

threaded rods work as well....

All thread comes in any where from 3ft to 6ft pieces and sometimes longer. That's what I use for bracing on large surface area boxes if the port can't do the job.

Alright last question (thanks to everyone for replying). How thick should i have the threaded rod be?

I tripled baffled my 6.5" enclosures ;)

They're quite acoustically dead, now :)

damn thats crazy... lol ive only herd of that kind of stuff for spl walls. I was pretty amazed at the box i had built for my XXX's with the double baffle. I may have just missed it but i havent noticed any flex (then again i havent played them full volume)
