New Setup

Recommended Posts

I want to get new 15" subs and im leaning towards getting two 15 type R's. Im mainly looking for spl. I am wondering if i should go with that setup or what do you guys think?

I think the Type R's stink, but answer some questions and give us a clue to what you want and we can help.

Budget=

box (premade or how much space do you have)

power

Type r's really don't have the x-max or thermal handling to be spl drivers, they are quite efficient and do ok on power but you would be much better suited to get a high efficiency soft suspension driver (sundown sd1's for example).

Why 15" drivers? what type of vehicle, it all matters.

Its for a 91 honda accord. I could fit a box with about 6 cubic feet. I have about $800 to spend for sub(s) and an amp. I pretty much want a spl setup, id like for it to be loud.

keep in mind it takes more then 2 subs and a amp to have a spl set up..will you be doing sound deadening, high output alt, extra batteries?

getting mixed ideas here bro first you say you want a spl set up then you say you want something for daily use not to compete..if you wont be competing then why do you want a spl for daily use? i would go with something that will sound really and stop be able to get loud..just my opinion though

oh ok well in that case id rather go with the kicker l7's over the r's since sq isnt a concern for you and just want loud..and the l7's have more potential to get louder..if you go with 2 l7's from ebay you can get them for $400-$450 for a set 2 new ones if you go used it will be around $325...so you got about $400 left for a amp you can get a kicker zx1500.1 or 2 kicker zx 1000.1 one for each sub....all this stuff can be found pretty cheap on ebay just make sure the sellers ratings are good..

would a kicker zx1500.1 be enough power for 2 15" L7s? would dual 4ohms work with that amp

if you can id eiter get a zx1000 for each or maybe throw in 150-200 more and get the zx 2500.1

i would not suggest running no more than a 1200w amp on a stock alternator.

I would be looking into 2 15s approx 500w each or 3 12s approx 400w each off of a 1200w amp.

You will kill the alt in the long run if you dont upgrade.

Also, the l7s are box hogs and require around 2.5 minimum to 6 cu ft max PER sub.

i would avoid the generic junk... Life is to short to have the same thing everyone else has !

actually if you have dual 4 ohm then you eiter can wire them to 4 0hm or 1ohm and that amp only puts out 1500 watts at 2 ohm in this case id look into sundowns 1500 watt model or the rockford fosgate punch amps..so basically just look for amps that put out 1500-2000 watts in eiter 1 ohm or 4 ohm loads and you'll be ok..just make sure you check with the board on the brand and model before you pay for it..not all amps are created equal :drink40:

btl's are very nice i would rather have a 15 or 18'' btl over L7 or type R if you get make sure you push at least 2000 watts to it to really appreciate what that sub can do for you, also hifonics is not my cup of tea..the perfect amp for the btl in my eyes are sundown sae-3000,kicker zx 2500.1,rockford fosgate punch 2000 watt model,

Well is there another sub thats almost as good as an Fi that can get loud. I would rather have a 1 high quality sub than 2 l7s. Is there any that you can think i can push with about 1500 watts?
