There's a difference between someone who "hates" and someone who has a legitimate gripe with the product for one reason or another.

As for eD amps, I don't know if they're being built by Value Electronics anymore but if they are, you might want to watch out for replacement parts. If you want to repair some of those Avionixx or Tsunami amps you're looking at some good money to find a Tripath chip now that they're out of business...

Speaking of who makes what. Who the heck makes ICon's? I think I know........ Peace

Many of us don't have really expensive gear and the few that do, have pinched pennies and scrapped the money together over time to invest in "better" equipment.

The key is to be patient. If you see something you really want, it's well worth it to make a few sacrifices and save up the money and buy later.

That's the beauty of this hobby. It just keeps changing. You'll get there eventually. Just start out slow and shop wisely.

Well, the reason why i put it at the time was I had read a thread about how much they really didn't like Hifonics. So the title was the first thing that came into mind. If the moderator/s would like to change the title of this thread then that is perfectly fine with me. I have Hifonics amps so I really wanted to hear peoples opinions on the matter and what they recommend instead of the current brand that I do have.

All I know about eD is that they have a hefty warranty on their products, i think it's 5 years but don't quote me on that. I heard a lot of mixed reviews regarding their products so that's really why I mentioned eD.

Thanks for the info.

Most people's issue isn't so much with their products as it is with the man behind the products. The internet forums are a very tight community, and we have been blessed, and in some instances cursed, to be able to interact with the company presidents, owners, etc, and many even have close relations with these people. The owner of eD has earned himself quite a shitty reputation outside of his own little clique.

Someone who knows what they're doing ;)

Amen.

No f'ing way I could afford the commercial equivalents for a lot of what I have...that's where DIY comes in.

Good luck trying to get anything covered on the warranty. ;)

My e12a.22 came with a 5-year warranty, I believe.

Let's see, in that 5 years, they've changed buildhouses twice, totally abandoned the design of the woofer that I bought...heck, they didn't keep that design more than one year, after the 15A's cones failed they dropped it like a lead balloon and went to the Image Dynamics-built drivers :)

really the SSD's are amazing sounds great and beats crazy. i am so happy with FI i am seriously thinkin about gettin another one when, at first, i told myself that i couldnt get two subs. lol well i no everyone has their own experiences and stuff but i really have had a great experience with hifonics and the other who told me about them have had good experiences with them too. well i mean when i do upgrade to another ssd, i am going to go for another amp. the us amps md2d. i might go back to hifonics or i mite go to something else. i mean i think maybe if you really want something that will be worth the extra tax then just save up for a sundown or us amps or something and you wont have to worry about it, or if your happy with hifonics then keep with it, but since there are mixed feelings about the hifonics, getting it repaired or warranted might be a lil tougher. i dont know im just blowing hot air lol

where can you find an eD nine.1 amp for $250???

I sold mine for $220 on ICIX, which is the same price i bought it for used over a year ago. If your looking for a used one they pop up there from time to time.

Also check for used or refurb'd SAE 1000Ds...think some were sticky listed on the sundown forums here on SSA.

I'm just going to wait, no sense ordering now. I just bought my Hifonics, who knows I may even like it. If i don't, then I'll sell it before my next trip and if that happens i'm going to get a sundown. Heard too many good things about them, I'm sure it's a solid amp.

Before coming on to this forum I was pretty much sold on the eD amps if i were to change my Hifonics. Now, no doubt i'm going with Sundown.

Thanks!!!

Sundown's not the only choice out there for a great amp, but they're pretty damn bulletproof from what I've seen, it would be hard to go wrong with one :)

The one thing IMO that is critical for me to purchase from an internet company is service. Missing the capability for help or a way of dealing with issues is an instant no buy and of course eD tops that list. The one really nice thing about SSA is that none of us will stand for that so the manufacturers here will treat you well, in particular the core ones.

There is actually a really simple solution, if you can't buy a brand new car that you like due to money you instantly shopped used. You should treat amps the same way. I'd personally rather have a used BMW than a brand new Tata. Hell I'd rather have a 15 year old Bm'er than that Tata. When it comes to amps the analogy holds really true. If you choose to be in the lower budget range you don't have the funds to buy new and have to buy used.

And buying used is not such a step down from new, simply because amp technology hasn't changed too much :)

Regularly it can be a step up.

this one post sums up ssa as a whole. not that the manufacturers that are here need anymore incentive to be a qualtiy product, but being associated with the forum only helps. in both directions as well. it means alot for the forum to be associated with the companies that are here.

btw, i own a nemesis series hifonics amp and only have a few gripes about it. the letters have never lit up, which speaks somewhat to quality. and while it'll do more then rated power, it clips like a mad dog doing so. i still run it to this day, but have it set by o-scope and dmm to roughly 450wrms of it's rated 750. and it is still clipping, although mildly. again, that speaks to it's quality. they are decent inexpensive amps, but there are better used products out there for similiar money.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:

eD amps are ok I guess, but owned and run by very questionable people and that topic has been covered to death. But if I were you, I would check ebay for the Cerwin-Vega EXL1200 if you want quality 1200 watt power. Designed by the same people that did ARC and Zapco, one that is superior to eD or HiFonics. Personally, I would also like to mention the Sundown SAE-1000D if you saved up a few more dollars, small foot print and sturdy 1000+ watt amp with awesome track record. If not, contact Jason Paul of Cadence, and see about a discount price on the TXA-1000. So to sum that ramble up:

IMO quality/performance per dollar:

CV/Sundown/Cadence >> HiFonics/eD

I used to like HiFonics when Mr. Mantz built them a while back. ;) But in recent years I have seen too many disappoint or go poof with very little strain. Their company focus changed drastically from solid quality products to heavy promotion and mid level quality at best.

Would you by any chance have any review or power testing on the CV ELX 1200 and gut pics? I have been looking for a review on them.

That is an interesting idea. I know we will have to kick our bandwidth up again. We just hit 90% already this month after juicing it up 2 months ago. As to how it will be set up, I am not sure, I would prefer something that is not code heavy, but something users could submit and mods could approve images and info.
