Help me decide...

Recommended Posts

What's going on guys. I've been putting together some ideas and funds for my next project. The car is a 99' Honda Civic Ex coupe.

So far I've picked up a Kicker kx2500.1 for my subs. My next question may come off as a FAQ, but this is a more specific question towards my application. Right now it's a toss up for me between 2 12" Fi Q's or a single 15" BTL. Either system will be sealed off from the trunk in around 4 cu. ft tops. I'll play a variety of music on this system, mostly rap, but it will be shown off FREQUENTLY... I'm just looking to get as loud/low to the ear as possible on a daily basis. I am open to other ideas as well, I'm just favoring these 2 in particular due to having heard these subs, but in completely opposite setups.

Cliffs:

4 cu. ft. @ 30-35hz, sealed from trunk in 99' Civic coupe

Kicker kx2500.1

$500ish budget for subs

Goals: Loudest/musical daily setup to the ear using the information provided (Music: Mostly rap, but a wide variety of others as well)

Again, just looking for specific advice from people with experience with these subs.

Thanks in advanced,

Drew

I would go for Fi BL's or SSA ICON's.

You don't really need what the BTL will give you, and the Q's (while they sound good) won't get as loud as the BL can.

at this point so many people are doing the fi thing i would try something different and go with the icons..if you go to the ssa forum section there are lots of reviews and videos of them in action..

What do you mean what the BTL will give me? Sorry if I sound ignorant lol, but could you please elaborate. Also, wont the 1250 each be too little for the bl's?

Yea, honestly I was trying to avoid Fi just for that reason. However, no matter how many people are running them on the forums, I'd say they've def. proven themselves for price to performance.

The Icons are on my list as well. It would end up being between the Q's and Icon's if I go the route of the 2 12"s. The BTL is looking like the better choice right now due to the fact it's cheaper and I think it may finally be the sub to begin to tingle my spl nerves lol.

Thanks so far guys! Keep em' coming!

The BTL is made as an SPL competition sub. Since you want to actually listen to music and show off for people, that's why I recommended the BL.

Alright, I see where you're coming from. Valid point. I've just heard one or two used in daily setups and I was just amazed at the output from the single sub, while still keeping up with music like slipknot.

Are you recommending 2 12" BL's or a single 15"?

2 12's would better handle the power you have. I'd add the BP power option to be safe as well.

hmmm...

decision between a ICON and Fi Bl....

how about a Havoc? has to be one of the best looking drivers available... they are getting great reviews as well... 2, 12" Havocs on 2500watts would slam.

there all about the same, get whatever looks best to you.

and yeah two 12"s will be louder than 1 15".... just cone area...

Lol, soooo many choices. I had started reallllllly looking into the Havocs, but no one has had any input on them so far with the exception of a few... Any particular reason for that?

I really don't mind running the 2 12"s, I just really enjoy the "Wow" factor from a strong single sub setup.

My last system was a 15" Mag on a Memphis 1100 in 3.5 ^ 30hz... Only reason I sold that system was to take a serious step up as far as the SPL factor goes. I was doing 142's on music out of my trunk with that setup. I figured with the added power and change of equiptment, I'd like to shoot for 145's daily. TL numbers will mean nothing to me though as long as it has the ability to get loud as hell to the ear. Don't get me wrong, the Mag was THE most versatile drivers I've heard to date... Again, just wanting to add more balls to it.

So now the list looks like this...

1. 2 12" BL's

2. 2 12" Havoc's

3. 1 15" BTL

4. 2 12" Icons

In no particular order.

I have 3 15" Havocs right now!!!! Dropped one in my BTL enclosure today and I was definately impressed. As compared to the BTL the Havoc had very SMOOOOOOOTH Bass and the low notes we're tight and clean. (Definately not loose or sloppy) Not that the BTL was loose or sloppy) And according to what you said above I think the BTL is a serious contender for you.

How much do you enjoy the "WOW" factor? If that is the case I am running a BTL dual mag settup for daily on a sUndown 3000. I am wowed everytime I'm in it as the BTL plays music and gets loud as hell........... If you order the spl option on the BTL you would just be entring SPL contests I hope. If you order the "daily" option you will be good to go. Personally I am in a similar dilema in making a decision what to run.. My choice is between the Havoc's and the SSds w/ copper coil option. Either choice will be 418s AGAIN for the 4th time in my life...AGAIN in a single reflex bandpass enclosure about 35CF. BTLs with all the power needed is not in my budget. Even the Havocs will force me to buy another 3000. I truly LOVE the sound of the SSDs w/ o options and I'm sure the copper coil option is right up my alley. The Havoc's do look good though. Dmmit bro I told you I was confrused. hehe

Just installed 2 18" Havocs this past week in my buddy's Cherokee. Going to hook my 3K up to it tomorrow!!!

Personally I have my love for the BTL as a one sub settup but with my 4 18" bandpass I don 't need the extra banging. I prefer Loud, Low, and Smooth

I'll let you get a taste of what the BTL's are capable of this weekend Drew... :neil: ...And then you can make your decision...

They may not be a completely "SQ" oriented driver, but all things considered, they do sound really good....I am very pleased with mine. fing05.gif

Lol, I'm gonna bring plenty of video to record so everyone else who doesnt get to attend can see as well. Them BTL's are definately sexy. With the BTL's, I'm thinking farther down the road for when I/if I decide to upgrade... it would be so much easier to work with 2 15"s in my car than 4 12"s.

Joe, I guess my old man's going to be riding out there with me as well as my younger brother, so I'll be sure to let them get a taste of what a real system sounds like lol

Bump...

Right now ive narrowed it down to...

1. 15" BTL

or

2. 2 12" Havocs

Any input on the potentially loudest of the 2 setups?

I hate how everyone I know that has a system went to a shop and came out with 2 12's. I don't what they think is so special about 12's. And for that reason. I refuse to get 2 12"s myself, let alone a single 12. I would go with the single 15, but thats just me.
