Im just a noob but what I see is that the so called SQ guys see it as black and white(SQ or SPL) and the so called SPL guys see it as black, grey and white (SQ/LSQ/SPL)............now quality is just a level of your standard's ......................just because your standard's are higher (in what ever high's mid's or low's.... to bright.... to flat..ect ..ect) then another person's........................ Does not mean that it's not quality to them ....................whats a perfect setup for one person will not be for most................. so we as audio guys shouldn't take it as a personal attack when by definition SQ/LSQ or SPL does not mean the samething to everyone...........................but I do understand what Baccus was saying ...........if your going to help(give your opinion) dont do it in a smarta$% GOD like attitude................ thats just the way I see it

I can see both sides. I lean towards SPL myself, but I suppose I sacrifice quite a bit of the "peak" by going for a lower peak point, but regardless it is in no way SQ. I literally do turn my subs most of the way down when I want it to sound 'good'.

I'm going to do a bit of digging, but I'm sure I'm going to ask the SQ guys for help pretty soon, because while I'm pretty happy at the moment, there's always a new project on the horizon and their experience is such a great help.

If you ask for help in a way that doesn't make you sound like an idiot or a snob you normally get really sound advice, even if it comes with a bit of cynicism or sarcasm.

LB you forget one very major point, an SPL setup is made for maximum bass at one note and an SQ setup is made for having no maximums anywhere in the spectra. Saying you can get the complete opposite to mimic the other isn't possible. The only way to do this is to unplug your SPL sub when you want it to sound good. You could surely invest in the front stage to get there, but the box, the driver, and the whole sub application is not capable of the transition.

M5/// :

you make a very good point.

i am a weekend SPL Nut...

btu during the week i have a different box & sub for lisenning to music on,

so i swapp boxxs - fade the sub volume down using my Kove Audio Aphex AX1 signal processor,

and let the sub blend in with the rest of the music trying to have a lil SQ during the week

Yjblitz :

you make a Great point...

Who cares what anyone else does or thinks, do what makes you happy and don't worry about the other guy's views.

Pure SPL is high powered fart machines that couldn't reproduce music at any cost.. 3-5 seconds of satisfaction, sounds a lot like my sex life.....

SQ is boring and expensive with little or no satisfaction after you leave a show. fing05.gif

j/k, but if you think about it, that's the common views by the other crowd.

I did things backwards from most nowadays. I started in IASCA in 1988, in 0-50 watt class, and there was no SPL competition. 130db on the old AC was all you needed to max out.

Now I'm building the all out Fart Monster that won't play music.

But the true fun is in between, loud street beaters and bassracers. (as long as it's before dark, at dark, I want it quiet)

And as for the "turn it down" comment...well, it's either going to be us saying that, or the police saying that...and I think we're cheaper :D

No sound ordinance in my town...and close to/if not; 150db @ my finger tips... :jon: , have a god day officer....lol.

does not mean it sounds bad though. buddy @ the local shop, said how he is more clean sq. style. I go yeah, but mine is loud and clean... he replies; f*ck yeah it is! and that was only one sub... two now...lol.

street-beater 4 life!

cant we all just get along....?

I watched the loudest vehicle I have ever layed my hands on, and also the best sounding vehicle I have ever had the pleasure of helping with being built in the same garage / driveway , by the same people, at the same time. The two sides of the sport can and do co-exist peacefully. The key to harmony is knowing that both systems are complete polar opposites of each other. But in the end, both were created to do the same thing. Make people listen and say "...........damn" :)
