Project over the past month.

Recommended Posts

Built these for to go with the Mach5Audio IXL-18 in the sonotube I just finished:

I figured I did 324 passes with the router. Baffles are 2.25" thick, backs are 1.5" thick. Took 5 sheets of MDF with (2) 4" strips left over. yes they are HEAVY!!

Each driver is in .5 ft^3 tuned to 38 Hz. These are based on the ART array, but doubled. Tweeter spacing is not great, but we tested before I cut the holes for the tweeters, and they sound awesome. . .

They are driven with an old school 380 x 2 RMS Carver amp, and it is like being at a concert in this guy's living room. these along with the 18" sub on 1000 watts is nuts!!!

Interesting :) Although I bet that spacing shown in the picture is wayyyy too small to get a good image out of them :D

What kind of crossover did you use?

These things were built for loud 80's, rap, and techno music. . .and man do they perform :D

The XO's are the ART array 12 dB/oct for the woofers. The woofer section of the ART arrays is 16 ohms, so I just built two sets and ran them in parallel. The tweeter XO is a simple in line cap like the ART array, but adjusted for a pair of 4 ohm tweeters in series. I was really worried about how they would sound, but they work awesome for the type of music Skip listens to.

I built these at just under $1000 for materials. If I was building a set, I would have to charge at least $1600.

That is insane. I hope to build a line array in the future, but probably not at that scale. :)

Just over listening to them again last night. With Skip's front door open, you can hear these things nice and clear a half a mile away!!!

They are so loud that he wants more subwoofer now. Have not decided what yet. . .Maybe another IXL18 or (4) MJ 18's. We even talked about two more towers with (8) 12's in each one. . .

Convince him to let you put holes in a wall, and run those IB :D

Got the basic cabinets done. Installed the drivers and gave them a test run. Sound awesome. Just what we were looking for - good strong, clean bass from 35-100 Hz.

Ordered laminate for them yesterday. Just need to roundover the front edges and paint the fronts and backs.

I would just like to say that you and your freind skip are gods.. that has some serious shock and awe factor to it I'd give my g/f's left nut to hear that setup.. I have a freind who once had 10 - 15" JBL Gti's Hooked up like that in his living room in stacks up to the ceiling with 2 front stage 15" in i/b as mids and apex horns runnin off 4 crown's and I thought that had some shock value to it but I'm going to have to have him take a look at yours ... it's fantasticular man..
