standard cab ranger

Recommended Posts

Do you think it is possible to fit a ported 10 inch bl in a regular cab ford ranger? I currently have two 12inch kappa perfects sealed and the box is a little too small for the 12's and i am looking to make a switch to a one sub setup in a smaller box. Wondering if the bl would be a possible option or not?

I am planning on building a new box for the 10 inch bl and want to port it. Like I said before I can get a little over 1.5 ft^3 before sub or port. Does anyone have any reccomendations on what size port to use for this box? Or does anyone have any suggestions on a sub/box combo that can get louder in a smaller standard cab pickup like a s10 or ranger? I'm open to all suggestions and appreciate any help I can get.

Would you be opposed to sealed? My guess is you could go with a Q12 sealed and it would sound pretty darn good. I have no experiance with the subs you have now though, so i couldn't compare them.

No I wouldn't be opposed to sealed at all. I have gone through many different setups in this truck (all sealed) and I have not found anything that I have been overly impressed with. That is why I was thinking about doing a ported box but I remember reading somewhere on here that it is hard to port truck boxes.

How much room do you have per side say if you did a sealed pair of 10's? Like SSD's with copper coil?

Thanks!

Well right now I only have a memphis mcd500 so the two 12's are only getting around 250 per sub. I borrowed a friends cadence daytona 1000 and put that in my truck for a while but I still wasn't too impressed with the kappa perfects in about .75ft^3 per sub with polyfill. This is why I want to go with a single ported setup running off of the memphis amp until I can get a more powerful amp. The problem is I'm away at school now and won't be able to make good money until I come home for the summer. But I can buy the sub soon and wait until summer to make the box/buy the new amp.

So I guess my options are either a ported 10inch bl or a sealed 12inch fi q or even a sealed 12inch icon. it will be temporarily powered with 500 watts but sometime within the next few months it will be powered by a sundown 1500d. I'm not too concerned with sq. The kappa perfects sound very good but I am looking for something that has the ability to play louder. Does anyone have any opinions/suggestions?

If you're not interested in SQ and plan on a 1500d, i would look into the 10'' BL. Play around with some box calcs and see if you can get what you want.

You don't have anywhere near the space you need to port a 10. With 1.5cuft external a sealed 12 is your best bet or a pair of 10's.

i had a reg. cab s10 and did a single 12'' sub ported liked it pretty well if you can get the airspace. Mounting depth is what i always had trouble with. If i were to do a single cab setup now i would do a single 12'' or 10'' with and aeroported box.

have you removed the rear speakers and associated trim? if no, that will free up some room. (i'm assuming this is a newer ranger) youhave one of the worst standard cab trucks to try and get loud in, without a blowthrough. simply no room.

if removing the rear speakers and such is no option, a monster 8 might work. definitely enough room to port that. also, you'll need to watch the depth if you need any kind of leg room.

I have a reg cab s10 right now. With a 10ssd with copper coils ran off a alpine mrp850 and it sounds good and tends to get loud. Not to bad anyway.

What if I were to use an aeroport? Do I still not have enough room?

The only 8's I have used in this truck were JL w3's sealed and I didn't like it at all. But I would try a 8 ported if you think it would be able to play low and get pretty loud. I'm not planning on competing or anything I just want a loud daily driver. And the kappa perfects aren't cutting it for me.

Of course it can fit, but it depends on your desire to hear port noise. For me, no way it might be fine for you as 1.5cuft with a high tuning and a smallish port will be possible.

So if I was to go with a sealed 12 what would you suggest or how about a ported rli-8?

If you read my sig, you can see I have a ported Rli8 but just so you know the external dimensions of my box are over 3.4cuft which is of course why I say no you can't port. Of course you could use less port area, and tune higher but that isn't for me. As for the sealed 12, you have plenty of space in fact nearly ideal for a lot of different drivers.

Ok thanks for the help everyone. I will let you all know when I make a decision. Probably wont be for a little while because I don't come home from school for a little over a month.

I think the q12 would be a good choice but it is a little deep. Does anybody know if it will fit in a box that is 13'' tall with a 5inch top depth and a 9inch bottom depth?

I forgot to mention that 1.5ft^3 is the max internal value. The shape of my box is odd because it has to go under the 5x7's on the back wall. If you go to www.woodlawncabinetry.com you can find a picture of a custom ranger sub box housing 3-10's. This box is identical to mine, except mine is 2-12's. I do not know how to calculate port length correctly. I've used an online calculator and got a port length of 24.6'' in a 1.2ft^3 enclosure tuned to 32hz using a 4'' round port. Or using a 3'' round port the length would be 13.3'' in the same enclosure with the same tuning. Is this possible or am I doing something wrong here?

Did you have trouble with port noise?
