need tires for the cooper

Recommended Posts

tire size is 205-45 r17, at least h speed rated. looking for all season, prefer treadwear over performance, though performance can't be mushy. run flats aren't needed and budget is about $400 at this time. i have a hook up for most brands, so budget doesn't need to be spot on.

current tires considering are..

falken ze912

kumho ecsta ast

yokomaha prada spec 2

and in that order as well. yay or nay? what would you buy and why?

thanks folks!

I've been happy with my Kumhos, but they haven't been the all-season ones.

912's!

personal experience? kind of mileage did you get outa them? i need to know, lol

i can get them for $387 mounted and balanced. good price?

tom...which kumhos you got? i can get the above listed ones for $312 m&b. same questions as john.

i'm having them bought and installed next saturday. so i kinda need all the opions i can get, quickly. i've read a few reviews, but they are hit and miss. consumer report puts the falkens at #1, but personal reviews all say they suck in snow. i don't get much of the white stuff, but we do get some.

in any case, comeon folks i need details!

My first set was the supra 711s (discontinued), and now I have the ecsta SPTs. Both are Z-rated summer tires. They seem to have better traction than the original BF Goodriches, and they're especially good in the rain. I got ~30k miles out of the first set, and I wasn't easy on them.

have you checked the Mini forums?

There were a ton of guys who used to run them on their civics when I was in that scene.

Not daily guys either, track abuse was pretty common and good times were posted.

No one ever mentioned how they felt about wear time though..

been checking the mini forums quite a bit, the 912s, 452s and 512s all get good reviews. teh nitto neos get good ones, but i'd have to go a bit wider. a few like the kumho asx tire and they all seem to be in the price range.

i need to find a site with reviews of all of those tires, anyone care to link a consumer repots page??

I really like the BFG KDW2's. Great tire, won't be stellar in the snow, but they are superb in the rain for a performance tire. The only knock on them typically is how loud they are, but they were actually quieter than my Michelin PS2

BFGs?? on da mini?? lol, what you think i'm pimedout97x or something??

will probably go with the 912s, but i'm concerned about the weight. are they really that much heavier?

the nitto neos i can't find anywhere. but i imagine they be a bit pricey. oh shit, this sucks.

WTF!!!! LOL!

the nitto neos i can't find anywhere. but i imagine they be a bit pricey. oh chit, this sucks.

i have the Nitto NeoGen's on my mini, on the stock 17s, but i stepped up to 215/45/17, get a little bit wider of a tire.

i love them! only 96 shipped each when i got them, new

i hated the run flats, they were HORRIBLE.

i just got some new 18's though (konig hotswaps) and got the same Nitto tires, for like 112 each (for the tires) in 215/35/18.

havent put them on yet and drove with them

i went with the kumho escta ast, so far so good. road noise coming home was nil, ride quality over the runflats was 250% better and handling hasn't seemed to suffer, though i haven't pushed it yet. one otehr thing, price was great, i got the tires for free.

seems the factory 17" wheels have an extra tall safety bead, probably due to running the runflats. in anycase, the tire guy was a no0b, having never dealt with a runflat or a mini. i watched him work on the last tire and in the process of trying to get the new tire over the bead, he was using a metal prybar. i watched as it slipped twice and nicked up the rim. i then looked at the three finished rims, all three had nicks. the owner/manager is a friend and coworker of the wife's. we went to him about it and he offered us two solutions. we pay for the tires and get new wheels or we get free tires and they wet sand the rims to attempt to fix them. i was for new wheels and pay for the tires, but the wife went with the free tires. and they did a decent job of touching up the wheels as well.

in any case, regardless of how the tires last, we can't beat them for the money, lol!

reason you cant find the neogens, is becuase i dont think they're made in 205/45/17.

get the ones i have now, 215/45/17

http://www.discounttiredirect.com/direct/f...rd=17&ar=45

93 bux each, great ride, grips very well in the rain!

Z rated :)

keep in mind the 215/45/17 will have a bit more sidewall than the 205/45/17
