Phase 1 complete!

Recommended Posts

Well, finally finished. Excuse the crappy pics from my crappy camera. THe entire enclosure/rack will be pulled out in the winter to be painted body color with a little extra special touch as well. I'll start with the HU

Simple ALpine CDA-7892. Cheap, sounds decent, and has all the processing this car needs for its owner.

Next, Vifa PL 7" in the door and a Peerless tweet in the A-pillar. This guy is not worried about soundstage at all so these were pretty easy. Find a spot, slap em in and I'm done. Notice I wrapped the crappy stock grills with some cloth. I think this really cleaned up the look.

And the crossovers for these. They are located in the stock rear speaker location and sit behind the stock grills once again covered in grill material.

Finally, the sub/amp rack. 2.3 cubes sealed and stuffed. Awesom impact, tight quick response and more than enough lowend for anyone IMO. One' 10" driver is more than enough for me in a hatch and this thing is nuts!

And a couple really crappy pictures of it lit at night.

Tirefryr,

The install looks great!

How do the Vifa's sound and what do you think of them.

I would guess they cover from mid bass to mid range???

Thanks for you time and patience.

Peace

Well, this guy is a basshead, so all he really is worried about is loudness. I have a really sweet microswitch setup on the ashtray that when closed turns the sub amp on. Pop open the ash tray door and no more sub. Really stealthy and convenient if he runs into a close call with the Po-Po. With that being said, while the sub is in commission, I have the Vifas crossed at 75Hz. They don't do too bad in the doors, but the midrange leaves something to be desired. Of course, I'm sure this would change if loaded in an enclosure or possibly some EQ and/or crossover work, but he is happy with it, so I'm not messing with it. Without the sub in action, the Vifas are run wide open from the lowend, and provide some amazing bass in the doors actually, right up to the crossover point of 2700. They do however NOT handle the power very well in the doors as you could imagine. With that in mind, he has to be easy on the volume control with the 75Hz highpass off.

Overall, they are a great little woofer for the $20 a pop at PE, but I myself would not use them in my install. Simple and effective yes, but I am a fan of the 3-way setup with a dedicated midbass. I guess I'm a MidBassHead.

Thanks everyone for all the great comments. Hopefully I'll be getting a new camera soon and can show some better detail.

I hear ya; I laid all my stuff in my own vehicle the other day and realized my midbass is just way too much. No real need for a sub even. Scrapping the IB idea and going vented. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted. Now if I want some boom, I'll get some BOOM!

I have the next two days off, I might have to get all the ideas rolling and in gear. I need a nice strong midbass driver. I was waiting on the SI 8" but then the unfortunate happened to Nick. So I might just look around for one. got any suggestions???

you ready to sell that a1200 yet??? ;) jk, but do let me know if you decide to.

The Koda 8s are the next best thing right now. As for the A1200, I'm waiting on the other subs to get here. Trust me, you'll be the first to know.

Got some Treos on the way thanks to Mrray13. It was part of a trade. More things lying around.

As for the Kodas, yup Adire is correct; take a look at their site and you'll find all the info you need on them.

yeah, I was just over there checking out the koda's. I really want the Koda8's. But I am not sure if it will fit in my door. I will have to check it out tomorrow to see what I can do and how much room I have to work with. Those 8's look nice. If not I wonder how powerful a midbass the koda6 would do.
