What's the benefits of eq's?

how do you put it in your system?

I'm wanting to learn as much as i can about them.......

1) They can help shape the frequency response if you have some conditions that mess around with FR, they can improve the overall soundstage. Used with a real time analyzer, you can make the FR of your system to be whatever you want it to be, from flat to gradually sloping to whatever works in your particular install.

2) Usually right after the preamp and before the crossovers & power amplifiers...

Audiocontrol, Arc Audio, many of the major manufacturers also make pretty decent outboard EQ's.

Ideally, you should be able to EQ the left and right channels seperately.

I'll vote for the ARC EQ's. Those things are solid. Made by ARPA too.

Moving to Amplifiers / Head Units / Processors

I have an alpine that seems to work well. I'd say the greatest advantage is being able to handle it while on the road; this for a dash mount type of EQ. I find most CDs/songs are mixed differently and require adjustments to make me happy. Can't do that with a HU or trunk EQ. I can change the crossover and sub gain, and with this one parametric on the bass plus a few higher band ones I don't use that much. On the other hand an EQ to balance out your system in detail will be much too complex to have under a dash/etc., but I don't need that just enough to balance the music sources. I also like to control the bass to mid crossover points, but the parametric helps more.

I loved the old PG EQ's, but you can spend some money and go digital with the new Audio Controls.
