PVC and 45* corners

Are 45*s needed with in boxes that use PVC tubing as ports?

Putting the 45* corners in the corners of the internal air space will have the same effect with a PVC port as with a slot port

i agree, i'd only use 45's on tlines or maybe certain type horns in which the wave needs to travel a certain way other than that IMO their a waste of time, if you do gain anything it'll be in tenths of a DB and unless your competing will be pointless in a daily driver.

I guess there could be many different reasons why one would use em. I don't see myself doing it to "gain" anything, as far as a number on the sensor. Sometimes u even lose. Thats where testing before and after sorta thing comes in.

Now, if your doin it for support, or to take up airspace, I guess it could work.

the reason for 45's mostly would be to reduce port noise as mentioned in t-lines and other ported alignments as well. using them in an aero port (pvc in this case) or sealed box wouldn't yield any benefits.

45s are meant for a consistent line area also...not just for transmission lines.

Basically any port with a bend should have a 45 or better in the corners...not totally necessary but it helps

I will be using a 7/8 dow rod in the center between the speaker and the port for added bracing :)

SPL competitors often 45* all of the corners in their boxes because it does make a difference on the meter for most of them

How much of a difference. Tenths of dB?

Probably something like that.

Not audible, but a sensor will detect it.

I always do rounding with 4" diameter in my the corners of SPL boxes (using body filler/fibreglass) not 45* angles... then resin the box and sand to smooth... I gain anywhere from 0.5 -2 dB more gain noticed in smaller boxes and the smoother you do it. in my original design I make sure I will have enough space that I dont make the box too small to tune properly.
