Kicker zx.750 with a Q series woofer

Recommended Posts

Hello, I have a kicker zx.750 and a single kicker 12 inch solo-baric L7 woofer. I tried a ported enclosure and now it is in a sealed enclosure, but I just am not getting the bass I am looking for. I have been looking into a Q series woofer and was wondering what size people would recommend and how big of an enclosure for the wattage put out by the zx.750. I currently have a 1992 lexus es300 (4 door sedan) but may possibly be buying a 1998 ford expedition. Could somebody give me some advice about what to do?

I'd recommend getting a SSD instead of a Q with that amp honestly...

Thanks!

Not getting the bass you are looking for isn't very specific. What exactly don't you like and what exact enclosure did you have it in. First and foremost we need a baseline to understand your issues.

To be specific It is not loud enough for me and the really low bass notes are not even close to loud. At first I had it in the standard kicker ported enclosure that they sell along with the woofer (http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=510&i=2068VS12L7&tp=112). Now I have it in a 1.4 cubic foot sealed enclosure which was the biggest I could find anywhere and it did get louder, but still is not quite what I am looking for. My friend has two alpine type-e's with a 400 watt amp that hit harder then my L7.

LOL, you have a sealed box. Sealed is the very definition of not loud. Port that L7 and I guarantee you'll be louder than your friends crappy "Type E's".

:) Solid ported box should always be louder then the sealed one...as they have said may want to try to build a good ported box for your current sub and then if you still aren't happy go from there...

Thanks!

In particular with the L7 which not only isn't loud in a sealed enclosure but sounds like crap. Out of all drivers to seal, that is the opposite of one that you should try it to. A different enclosure will really, really open that thing up.

Ok thanks, but before I invest more money in an enclosure, how would my L7 compare to say a SSD or Q fi woofer?

It depends on the box. In a good box it can be louder, in a bad one it will really, really sound like ass.

Ok cool good to know and that is what I thought, too bad I bought the sealed one already. Would a 3 Cubic foot ported enclosure maximize the volume I can get from the L7?

Not some generic one, not even close. You can't just buy a box and put a driver in it they have to be very specifically matched :(

If I were to build it or have somebody build it, what should the specs of the box be in terms of cubic feet, port area, port tuning, ect? Again running a kicker zx.750.1 with a single 12 inch solo-baric l7. Looking for high SPL without totally loosing sound quality.

I plan on running the same setup as you plan. Kicke zx750.1 with a single 12" Q. I received my amp yesterday and the amp is rated at 924 watts on the birthsheet.
