I wanna compete in SPL

Recommended Posts

I have 4 Q15's ported in 10ft^3 tuned to 32hz on a IA40.1 @ .5 ohms. I am hitting 152db on a TL and 159.6db on AC mics, but I have it tuned for music and I feel the Q's are much more powerful down low.

I compete locally for fun in unsanctioned events and have a nice lil collection of trophies. So this past Sunday, a local but large Car Club asked me to join up, because they want an SPL division for SBN and whatnot, and they have and audio shop on board to help with builds. So I agreed, but know that I need to do better then 152 on a TL to have a chance in an "official" comp.

I have only a 140 amp alt, but I have 2 batts for my electrical and the IA 40.1.

Max box ~10cubes.

What would be my best choice and amount of subs for an SPL setup, with what I have? I will keep 1 or 2 of the Q's and keep a sealed box for daily, and throw in the SPL box when I compete.

I want to run with Fi subs, but I'm not sure if I should go with 2 BTL 15's or 3-4 BL 12's or what ever. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'd go with the BTL's with the SPL gap if you're talking about pure one-note wonders...or the "daily" gap if you're talking about "music".

3 BTL 15's

2 more 40.1's

4 more batteries

How does the 40.1 like 0.5 ohms? What voice coils do you have and how are they wired?

I just ordered my new subs dual 1's for 0.5 ohm load on my 40.1's. Can't ever get a clear answer on if they will take it. . .

Dual 1's and the 40.1 runs fine at .5 ohms.

I dont think I will be getting that much equp. Right now.

Isn't there an amature class to get started in? I would have to get some funding to get some of that stuff.

Can I compete and still play music? I am thinking about keeping one of the Q's so I can listen to music while not competing, but if I can create a loud setup that meters well and still hits low, then I'm all for that. I figured I would just switch out the box.

If my business picks up the way we expect it too, then I will probably pick up a CRX or something that can be dedicated to farts.

I need to see what this shop is willing to invest. Maybe I'll just make them by the stuff if I can convence them too.

IIRC the 40.1 LOVES .5 ohms.

He's gonna definitely need a new alternator to support 3 of them though.

what about just doing some bassrace, maybe 140-149.9 class?? with the exact setup you have, because you'd be playing music in a bassrace.

I own a pest control company. I am trying to pickup Rental building, hospitals and resturants. I have one resturant chain, a nursing home and believe we are being approved for a Management company to pickup 7 rental communities with a few hundred units each. We are also working on a Bed Bug prevention plan to market to all of the magor hotels across the contry. If I land a few more accounts I should be fine.

I also have a small record label which will make money of one of my artists get signed to a major label.

BassRace is a good option. I will look into it. I also payed with the settings on my HU and amp. I just put the HU in a couple days before the show, and found a separate bass setting maxed out, which affected the subwoofer volume. I have the gain very low and my subs where heating up. Now with the bass to 0, I turned my gain up and it hits harder and no heating up the subs....I guess the signal from the HU was clipping...is that possible?

I played with it more lastnight and damn! My wife yelled at me, lol..."You're gonna break your car!" I want to meter it now to see if I gained at all. Sure feels and sounds like it.
