SPL 12 issue

Should post this on CCA. Good sign that you haven't had any thermal problems with it yet.

Some people may not like that there...

Should post it on SoundGround then. ;)

Agreed!

it FINALLY went.. It took about another 15 minutes on the wall... then we pulled it out of the enclosure, and it took about another 4 or 5.. A lot of smoke came off of that puppy.

Should post this on CCA.

I got a vendor pushing warning for posting my review of the Maw 15's I had.

That place is :lame:

Cool. I think I'll go there...

Gawd, I can't concentrate on anything at that site. The whole thing is moving with flash and animation.

Jus so you know a wall socket is only capable of 1800 watts, not the ridiculous 14,000 I have seen mentioned. A breaker is 15 amps with 120Vrms at the socket, Power=Voltage*Current, so 15*120 = 1800 watts, not 14,000.

More power was flowing through that driver. Otherwise, the breaker wouldn't have popped like it did.

Yes. but even then I'm going to say the max was 2,000 watts.

Hard to say bud. You are applying standard Ohm's Law. So, which of the numbers are correct:

P = I 2 x R = 225 watts

P = E x I = 1800 watts

P = E 2 / R = 14400 watts

Current = 15 amps (we assume)

Voltage = 120 volts

Resistance = 1 Ohm nominal at 60Hz

Forgive me for getting a boner when the larger number is used. That's just human nature. :D

Breakers don't "pop" instantly son.

I'd venture to guess a good 8kW would be applied before the breaker did its trick.

Next time, get a clamp meter & measure the current ;)

They do pop extremely fast however, especially with a near short.

Hmmm...

The breaker popped about four times and the driver was fine. This shows there was no short. Like Scott said, the only way to measure true power through the driver is to use a clamp meter. Frankly, I think more power flowed through it than 8kw...
