How strong is the Nightshade Cone?

Recommended Posts

Since we tore up the Nightshade proto I decided to have some fun showing off how strong the cone is. I cut the surround off so it would sit flat on the ground and had Justin (local sales rep) stand on the back of the voice coil:

Just sits at around 350 pounds :) Neither the cone or the triple joint glue failed and he bounced up and down a bit while he was on there.

PS: I stood on a Konaki cone in the same manner (surround cut off, on the VC former) and it folded instantly. I'm about 175 pounds :)

I'm digging your early 80's wood paneling.

*laughs* You nailed it, that is when this part of the building was constructed.

Nice. Loving the office. Going to have to get some naked lady calendars up on the walls or some massive Sundown banners. ;)

I'll get Justin to put on my 50 lb weight vest and try it again :) That'll be 400 pounds!

Add a 70lb vest to him and it'll be like me standing on it. I am 6'7" and 420. Most chairs don't like me but it looks like that cone could do it.

Cool! Strong cones FTW!

Jake and I were just talking and we think the Nightshade cone is stronger than a "special" paper cone we have laying around here. The thing is heavy (about double the weight of a "normal" cone), but it sure is strong!

I"ve heard those cones are pretty pimp. I guess I saw for myself now.

Its sad how some companies, have stock paper cones, that will break with pushing your finger threw them, just to make u upgrade to a much stronger higher dollar done. :cough: :cough:

+1 Jake.

Nice job on the strong cone, Nothing like putting power to a sub and watching the cone shred.

Indeed, thats the last thing I want to happen!

On that note, I have a cut apart E8 prototype (there is a thread on these) and I am able to stand on the back of the former on it as well. I may get Justin to try it too. Granted, it's a little cone, but it's also an entry level driver :)
