Low power sub recomendations?

Recommended Posts

Well, i have a sub in my room that gets listened too occasionally... Im not looking for anything with incredible output (only have a 100watt amp) and it doesn't have to sound the greatest either... The only time i listen to it is in the morning getting ready and its not at really high volumes cause there are other people in the house but sometimes when no one is here i turn it up pretty loud... The box it is going in is somewhere between 2.3-2.5 cf cause im not sure if the whole thing is made of 3/4" material or just the front part with the sub... It is going to be ported as well... Right now the dumb manufacturers made the port 4" across and only 5" long... Not sure what that is ported to but im sure its pretty high... I will be making a new port for the box with pvc pipe... The amp says 100 watts but its probably a little over-rated and im not sure if thats peak or rms... Post any sub that will work in this setup whether it be a SQ or SPL(doubt you will get much spl) and i will just decide between them.... Any help is appreciated... Oh, and its a 12" sub... I guess i could do a 15 but don't think it would have enough power...

What kinda amp? Specs on the amp?

I'd probably go with a Kicker sub , like a CVR, and they're cheap too. Maybe for 100W , I'd try the Polk MOMO 12". My father has a MOMO Polk 10" in his car with an Alphasonik 200 watt amp, and for that little of power, it's impressive. I know the Kicker CVR claims to be 400W RMS but I'd try it.

Go to www.woofersetc.com and look up some and see what you like.

I don't know the model of amp and couldn't find any specs on KLH's website (thats the brand of sub and amp combo) cause they are re-doing their site... I think it might be 100rms though cause i saw a newer model on amazon with 125rms but it could be a little over-rated..

MAW12

I believe there are only a few Dual 2ohm versions left. The AA Assassin's can be added.

For 100w? I would look for something cheap and light...and efficient. That is what will get you your volume with low power. A 200w sub for example should have no problem, look for one with higher db. If you don't beat it even a 150w sub may work well. Don't get some high powered thing that is less efficient. You may have to figure out what ones will work with the size box you have. Some of those premade subs use a really cheap driver but they work fine in that app, it is not a high power car sub we are all used to dealing with. Check out the basic lines of brands you like, and maybe daytons or something. Unless you want to go with a larger amp later, then get more sub.

Yeah, also, idk what ohm load that amp is at... I know a lot of HT amps are 8 ohm but i guess ill just run it at 4 ohms and if i blow the amp its about 10 years old so its no a huge loss and it will give me an excuse to overhaul the sub situation in my room... But its gonna be on hold for a little cause car stereo comes first over room one but this damn $140 texting bill kinda hit me where it hurts.... You know, in the wallet? lol
