does a Q15 sound like this or is it just me

Recommended Posts

I got a pair of Q15's yesterday. I put them in the box which is 3.5 cubes tuned to 28hz and they sounded different then anything else ive ever heard. As much as everyone praises the low-end ability of the Q it seemed to me that the higher notes(40-60hz) sounded louder. The low notes made a popping sound that sounded like it might be hurting the speaker. I called someone who runs the ssd series and he said he had the same problem. He told me to tune them to 32hz and it would fix it but the whole reason i wanted the Qs is to hit lows. Should i give the speakers some time to break in or is anyone else having this problem.

2 Q15s

2 MTX TA81001

Thanks

Keith

give it time to break in. you'll learn to love the sub. that's wat some of the reviews said about the q.

"Ported box we recommend using 2.8-4 cubic feet @ 28-33Hz."-FI recommended box size for ONE q 15", I think your chocking the subs.

yep

ive got the gain matched with preout voltage and the boost turned up just a little bit. My subsonic is down to 20hz and the low-pass is set around 60hz. It hits low bass but when I put in chopped n screwed kind of stuff thats when it makes the popping sound. My port area is 41 square inches but it is a slot port that is 2x20.5 and 24.5 deep. Does the area seem like it could be a factor.

no bass boost, just don't use it.

port area may be a little small, but are you hearing port noise? how far is the sub moving when it does the popping?

Turn you subsonic up to 3-4Hz below tuning...that will get rid of the popping, you are going to kill the subs if you dont...you are unloading them :)

Thanks!

So i backtracked all my calculations and i figured out the problem. I tuned the box wrong, it's tuned to 33 hz not 28hz. I did turn up the SS frequency and it got rid of the popping sound. Cant wait to tune for some lows but i think ill do it tomorrow when my ears stop ringing :slayer:
