Sub Choice?

Recommended Posts

I have a 1992 Mazda extend cab and currently I'm running 6 type R 12's. All sealed. I want to run 2 18's in a ported enclosures. What series should I get? I have been told by Scott I should use the Q's. I'm using 2 Mtx Ta7801's and I'm going to get my 3rd in a couple of months. I only have about 12 to 14cbft to work with. I was wondering should I just get 1 of the Bl's? Run all 3 amps to it?

heh, you can't run three amps to one sub. If the amps were strappable you could run 4 to one sub, but that is not an option to be considered lightly. For the price of the MTX, I could think of a few other amps that would do much better for you.

On to your sub question. Did you have a budget at all? I assume your ultimate goal is for SPL.

Two 18" BL's in 6^3ft each should do nicely in your truck if you can fit that.

I don't know what you paid for the MTX's, but the price I found was decently hefty at $699.

I'd look into the Incriminator Audio 20.1 (an extremely[/] underrated 1800w @ 1ohm) or the Sundown SAZ-1500D (again, underrated at 1500w @ 1ohm).

If you email the store here on SSA, you can probably get one or the other for a decent price.

I ONLY PAID LESS THEN 400.00 EA FOR THE MTX AMPS. I REALLY WANT TO GET A ROCKFORD 4000 BUT I CAN'T SEE SHELLING OUT 2800 FOR IT.

dude ebay... seen RF 4000.1bd go for 1-1.2K

RF power amps are very nice, but a Sundown 3000 could be had for less, and IMO a great amp as well...

here is an RF 4000 for $1400... #300138544194

I'm plannig on a new build, with a Orion 2500d and two 18"s Q's or BL's/Havocs, but only have about 11 cubes to work with... might do some tweaking to get a couple more cubes to fit... cause; 18'>15's.

Hey Nick,

What's your thoughts on what I should do? I want to change my alpine's and run just 18's. Should I just get 1 Btl 18? Run both amps to it?

What kind of vehicle is it going in?

If it's an SUV you may be better off doing something along the lines of a pair of 18" Q's...but it's really dependant how much actual space (some dimensions to work with would be great) you have to work with...otherwise a pair of 15's would work nicely...

Thanks!

I have a mazda ext cab pickup and have about 12cu feet to work with. I really want 18's. I have never owned them and that's what i want. I want to kind of do what Steve Meade did in the honda and build the enclosure inside of the truck. If i can't do that this is the space i have to work with 30in high x 49in wide x 14in deep. If i built inside i think it would be a little bigger.

I have heard bad stuff about amps off of ebay. My friend got one and someone had changed the internal parts to something else. I know also if it's not got a warranty from rockford it cost at least a $450 for them to just look at it. That does not include them fixing it.

You just have to be careful. Not all amps on ebay are bad, and you're making them out to be that way.
