need help with box design j30 w/ 3 l7's

Recommended Posts

okay new here and was told that you guys could definitely put me in at least a general direction.

here goes

I have a customer who had three 12" L7's powered by 3 hifonics bx11200's in the trunk of his 96 J30. the box it self was a sealed, non-separated, box that was just big enough to wrap around the woofers and fire at the rear with the box jutted up against the gas tank that resides there. he is asking if there is any way to build a box that would be noticeably louder yet still retain the punch of such a constrained box. he doesn't mind the loss of his trunk so but the real challenge is figuring out how to get the sound to penetrate through the obstacles within the trunk . I have suggested running a port up into the rear speaker holes. but that still leaves me the challenge of recreating the"punch" of the smaller sealed non separated enclosure. would building a larger, separated sealed box offer somewhat of a solution to this? just need some more brains to get this train rolling. anything would be helpful,so thanks in advance.

Would like to just add, in case you are not so familiar with the Infinity J30, the gas tank is in the back of the trunk, like barrier between the trunk and cabin of the car. This is why I suggest maybe vent porting through the rear deck.

Of course, the sealed enclosure will be more punchy and accurate bass. Is their enough space to fire the ports up through the rear speaker hole area to have sufficient square port area for the L7's x3? If their is, tune it 38hz-40hz so it will be a bit more "punchy". If not, I'd stay sealed, just try different box sizes.

On my Sebring I had the 15" RE SX firing forward into the cabin with ports firing into cabin. It sounded awesome as well at only a 30hz box it did 146 on the TL. Is their enough space to fire them all forward or is the opening to small to fit them?

Best of luck to you.

I 'm helping with the project and unfortunately the gas tank doesn't allow enough space to place a port to the speaker deck without suffering the consequences of a mis engineered port. perhaps a meatir sealed box that looks right at the tail lights with a contact wall made from resined 3/4" mdf might help with the extra "punch"?
