1998 Nissan Maxima

This is a build log for TMAX's 1998 Maxima, but since I have all the pics on my digital camera I thought I'd start the build log.

The components to this system include.

Head Unit

Pioneer Premier 880 PRS

Front Stage

LPG Tweets Powered by a Kicker 100.2 with Seas 7" Mids Powered by two channels of a Kicker 850.4 (I can't remember the exact models so I will comeback and ninja edit when I do. I'm pretty sure it is exactly what ///M5 is running in his Silverado)

Substage

2 Sundown 10" SD-1's powered by the other two channels of the Kicker 850.4 bridged to 4 ohms

Deadening

2 Rolls Raamat BXT and 6 Yards of Ensolite which will be focused on the front doors and the trunk

Day 1

After a bunch of planning buying talking and BS'ing about the system we finally got it started by deadning the trunk.

First we stripped to the bare bones

Got the Head Unit installed and the RCA's ran today!

The Stock Setup

Got Everything thing tore down. Had a problem with getting the hazard light switch unplugged so we just put the whole piece on the top of the dash and left it connected

Had to custom fit a piece in the gap between the bottom of the unit and the pocket. The Scoshe kit provided a new pocket that only made it look worse

Added a hole in the back of a pocket to run the Ipod connector into a sweet little spot.

Completed! Sorry about the quality of some of the pics, my digicam can be very finicky

New headunit is very nice and actually a lot more graphical then I expected. Under a quick listen the stock speakers sound a wee bit cleaner. Travis will be spending the entire night reading the owners manual lol. This is definitely a very involved headunit, but extremely nice

Its been a long process but very rewarding. Now time time to ask alot of questions! I'll post them in a new post in a sec. Sadly the Ipod connector doesn't work but it will get fixed/replaced. Time to start EQ and TA and set the gains =)

its moving slowly but surely

and we hit a bump in the road after everything was installed i tried to hook up to my ipod connector i got power to it but now sound? hrmm... and i notice upon install that the product i bought was a refrub which i thought i was buying somethin brand new but maybe i miss read that part. but in the end its not working properly right now

oh well cant have everything go alright. still need to try it with my ipod and maybe it will be gravy crosses fingers.

i would of started on the doors today but mk has to go shoot some guns so he can get ready for his south texas hunt! oh well lol there is always tomorrow.

and the headunit is real sweet just got done messin with it lol

How much power would you throw at the tweets?

How long should the Woofers be broken in for?

Without the use of an oscilloscope do you believe the setting the gain with DMM is sufficient. (with some use of ears and common sense)

How do you like it?

it was a long days work and wouldn't have been that long if things did mess up

but what is the fun in that.

now for the programming of the headunit and to work on a box for sd1's v1

How do you like it?

Start at 5khz+ on the tweet and 3.2k- on the woofer and work your way up and down playing with slopes.

Set the gains on the mids, listen to them alone and then fade in the tweeters by blending the gain with your ears. Do so at moderate listening levels, then be nice and turn off the mids and turn up the tweets and see if they are struggling...they shouldn't even with a bunch of power with at least a 12dB slope at 4k+.

DMM is fine as long as the amps you are using do rated power. Ears are better though.

Install looks nice so far...don't be afraid to use some clay & deadening closer to your monster baffles (which I love btw).

the baffles are sort of a lil to large for the door lol we had to do some more moding when we installed lol

but it works thats all that counts and i didnt break anything! yes lol

now to get me a new ipod adapter

Hey theres nothing wrong with that IPOD adapter. its an easy mistake on those pioneer headunits. Switch out the ends of that funky cable that goes to the back of the HU and connects to the ipod box. I had the same thing happen to me.

If it makes sense you want the end thats connected to the ipod box on the back of the HU and the end connected to the back of the HU on the ipod box.

Make sure you do it before the 90 day return period so you will still have time to return it if it is broken.

Have you set the crossovers yet? just curious, and when i get to Beaumont we'll pop in that test CD and throw that DMM on the amp to get the gains set
