Quick SSQ & Q Question

Recommended Posts

Before anything, how much power will a Q with BP cooling handle, if gains are set properly, no audible clipping, etc.?

Okay, first off, the SSD should be louder then the Q, IN THEORY (disregard the box and everything), due to it's higher sensitivity, correct?

Second, the SSD is known to be heavy on the low end bass, but a bit lacking in the higher freqs. How does the Q do? Will the Q slam as hard as the SSD? In other words, will the Q reach that ass-dragging low bass that rap music is typical of?

Thanks, I'm going to ask a couple more questions based upon the answers I receive to this, so check back. :D

Stevesan your post is kinda confusing. The Q caters to the bottom range better than the SSD. The Q has a slight advantage in the sensitivity category, according to the website, by 2 tenths. It has a higher xmax. I dunno but that has some of the recipes for some deep potent bass. So in theory the Q has an advantage over the SSD in those aspects alone. Now you have to factor in proper wattage and enclosure into the equation in order to find out the level of loudness attainable. Without it you can't determine it. The Q ends up louder due to bigger recommended box and more power.

All in all, if I had the money I would have gotten the Q. I settled for the SSD and am not disappointed at all because it can get louder than most speakers in the same price range.

Ok, gotcha. Alright. I have 1500-1800W on tap, I will be running a Sundown 1500D at .5 ohms. I don't have a whole lot of space to work with either. If I go ported, then it will have to be a small box. Sealed is looking good at this point, but I'm not sure how much SPL I would loose. Two SSDs or Qs would work, as would one BL. So right now, I'm trying to decide what moofer(s) would fit my criteria.

I'm not an expert on FI products but it looks like the Q's would fit the bill. The rms for SSD's are about 800rms but you can definitely go over if everything is clean. The Q's are pretty popular and like I said, I would have gone that route if I had the money. Lots of extra headroom with the Q's and from all the reports.... they are awesome.

We are thinking of doing a BR version of the Qs and SSDs as well... a couple small tweaks including a 4th spider on them specific to ported bass race applications. We had one competitor using these mods and feeding his Qs 3000+W each for his bassrace runs with excellent results. Of course we wouldnt rate them as such. Usually 200-500W with the BP option... BR is simply a little more than that and a fair amount more mechanically.

Thanks,

Scott

If your using a pair, I would go with SSDs.

Single sub, fully loaded Q. or BL.

Sundown at 1ohm gave my stock Q hell.

Almost perfect for a BL at 1ohm. IMO.

Scott, I havent talked you in a good while.

Im just wondering if a new tinsel system going to show up?

Not saying what you have now don't work well. Its just not "retard" proof.

Playing under tuning with no subsonic filter, or one not set up right. Does real damage on them. Im sure you already knew this.

Wow, that sounds kind of what I need. I wouldn't mind testing some of those out. :)
