RE SX 15" in Smaller Boxes?

Recommended Posts

Would a RE SX 15" do well in a 2.0-2.5ft^3 Ported Enclosure tuned at like 33-35Hz, how would it sound, good or bad? RE recommends 3ft^3 as compact, but I've read on Tempro that a guy

SX's are already lacking in low end so putting them in a smaller box will only cause even more of a lack of output in the bottom frequencies

Thanks Acidburn, so even if i tuned it like 30-32Hz will it still lack in the bottom frequencies, so it doesn't worth the try?

because I've read on termpro a guy put 4 of the RE SX 12" in 1.25 ported and he say it sounded good and was loud, that's i was thinking of the RE SX 15" in like 2 or 2.5ft^3 tuned at like 32-34Hz.

I had my 15" SX in 3.4 to 34Hz

you can try it if you like, but from my experience, I believe it will be lacking low end

thanks ///M5

So lets say i put 4x RE SX 15" in an 10ft^3 total ported enclosure tuned at like 32-33Hz thus giving each 2.5ft^3 (not recommend by RE, RE recommend min 3ft^3) and i put 4x RE SX 12" in an 8ft^3 ported tuned at 32-33hz giving each 2ft^3 (this is well recommed by RE) will the the 12's outperform the 15's in Low Freq's and output? or will the 15's be louder at the higher freguenies since they are in a small ported box that is more peak?

thanks.

Not really a fair question as you are leaving out a lot of variables to top it off it will really depend on your expectations and what you consider a real frequency response. Most definitely the setups will sound different and pretty much no matter what you will find the ones int he right size box more enjoyable but the peak of the output maybe higher on either box and who knows at what freq it will occur. either way undersizing a box like you propose will really, really limit the low end.
