Stand by for the final build on the SRT-4

Recommended Posts

Well, I finally got the last word about my deployment. I ship out right around New Year. Now that I have a time-line I need to get the Neon in saleable shape. I bit the bullet last night an bought the amp. It's an older Kicker KX550.3 3 channel. Fresh refurb. $149 shipped. Now all I need is the sub. Looking for an inexpensive 12 that will work well in a small sealed enclosure and 200@4 or 400@2 for power. The build will take place over the next 3 weeks before I ship out. More sooner than later. The current trunk install comes out this weekend and the build begins. I'll start a build log in the correct section.

Looking for ideas for the sub. Needs to be a 12. Needs to sound good. Needs to work in a small sealed box. Needs to be configurable for a final load of either 2 or 4 ohms. I'll have 200W for power @ 4 ohms or 400W @ 2 ohms. Budget is around $120. I need to order it soon (next day or 2).

Your putting a sub in to sell the car? I would just leave it out. Diyma fits the budget and won't break with that power. Dropkick13 has a couple and am sure would sell one for less than the new price on diyma

edit: pics of the old install would be great!!

I never leave stuff in a car except if I don't want it. Never had anyone want to give me for it what I could sell it for out of the car....and that would include a free installation and setup.

Mach5 MAW-12?

I keep wanting to try some Mach5s but lately always end up falling into a deal on some other used subs.

Yeah I was thinking the MAW or the X12. I was seeing if anyone had any other idea.

The only reason I'm not putting it back to stock is that the front speaker install makes that impossible and I don't care about the HU either. I already have a new set of front speakers for the next car so the CDTs are staying in the car. They NEED an amp and while I'm putting in a new amp, no reason not to put in an inexpensive sub either. The wiring is already there and not worth the trouble to pull out. Build a quick enclosure, carpet it and call it good.

Not a chance that the current equipment stays in the trunk. SAZ-1500D, Son of Frank and an '04 XXX 12. I do plan on selling the XXX though.

It wasn't really pretty. It was headed that way but then the Son of Frank started giving me issues and I decided that it wasn't worth making all the trim panels only to tear it all apart again. That was about the time I started thinking about selling the car.

If you are going single sub scan ebay, I see odd singles used/leftovers all the time reasonable like blaupunkts/SS/CV/stuff I never heard off....and something less known might be best to have in there. If you are not going for mega bass, and will run less amp then near any good sub should work. Even a big 4ch amp could run it all if the sub was more efficient. Just what I would do.

Who wouldn't want to buy this in a car, it looks so cool....but *not* Dub Audio cool: http://cgi.ebay.com/XTANT-X124-SUBWOOFER-E...1QQcmdZViewItem

There are infinity, mtx, boston acoustics, RF, kicker, all cheap-ish ~50. Then again I have bought a bunch of used off there and not had a problem. Xtant is not a common name around here, people might like that here for example. See some JL on there too.

I got the sub off eBay yesterday. Kicker CVR. $35 shipped. Couldn't pass that up. Amp should be here tomorrow. Sub later in the week.

You have to remember who is going to buy that car....not you I imagine, and if you did you would put what you want in there.

You of all people know that you very well could have passed that up. :(

If I listen to it for a week, I'll be surprised. I needed a sub on the cheap. That's pretty much the long and the short of it. I don't exactly fit the profile of who I would expect to buy the car, so using my taste to build the system that will be sold with the car wasn't probably the best route to go. Hell, if I was keeping the car, I'd probably find a set of IB 10s and put them under the rear deck and seal the trunk up real good. All told I replaced the amps and the sub for $185. I'll sell the XXX and come out ahead.

That's why I can't go back to stock, BTW. And those mids are coming out in favor of the older Eurosport mids that go with the tweet and crossovers. I could replace the door panels, but that would cost more than $200, even off eBay.

Amp got here about 20 min ago. Pretty little bugger in a nice industrial way. Was looking it over and it's a Spinal Tap amp; the gain goes to 11! Good to see that Kicker has a sense of humor. Pics will be in the install log. Install starts Friday.

Really nice install, I like it. If the box is tuned good it will sound fine for most. I will try anything in my daily drivers, just don't get a P5 explod they sound nasty in sealed recommended but do get loud.

That's what's there right now. I need to get the spare back in to sell the car, though and that sub isn't going with the car.
