thinking about going active

Recommended Posts

I'm currently in the process of designing/setting up my first system. I currently have a pioneer deh-p690ub head unit but haven't been able to figure out all of its features yet. Can i have an active front stage with this headunit? I have a set of focal 6.5 V2 polyglass components, not installed, but i'm thinking about returning them to tweeter because after browsing through the threads here I'm sure i can get a better front stage for the money. Any input would be helpful, thanks.

you wont be disappointed by going active... one of the best decisions ive made so far... you have complete control over how you want your system to sound... im sure you will be able to run active w/o ne problems off this h/u... if worst comes to worse u can always sell it. try it and see what happens... hope this helps

Regrettably you will need a different headunit

Since I can't do that w/my current HU, i'll just go 2 way passive for now...any suggestions for better performance per dollar than my $400 focals? I''ll start a new thread for that.

Couldnt he get an external active crossover cheaper than buying a new HU?

Yes, but not if you consider the monies you'd get selling the h/u into the equation. A real offboard crossover is at least $125

$175 for the h/u used + $125 = $300 which is enough for a Pio 880prs and a better option than the offboard proc in the $125 price range

hmmm, well i'll consider that option....., but passive components would be simpler right?
