AMP blows fuses at 1 ohms

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone.

I am having a problem with my amp and i am not sure why.

I am running 2 in phase XT's (XTB212) http://www.inphaseaudio.co.uk/xt-range.php...;products_id=49 2 ohms X 2 1400 watts each about (900 RMS)

I am running it off a 1800W Kenwood mono block amp http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/p...ts_id/5745.html wired in parallel (1 ohms) but after i turn the volume up to a point BOTH the 30A fuses on the amp blows

i used to run these subs at 4 ohms and they worked fine but at 1 ohms they are like 2X better so any idea's why i blow fuses at 1 ohms.... i am quite sure my amp is 1ohm stable..

i also have a distribution block to run my 2nd 2 channel amp (400watts)

ANY IDEAS?

thanks

MARVIN

Ignore maximum power.

The amp you have won't do an actual 1.8kW, you'll be lucky to get a kilowatt out of it. Re-tune the setup with that in mind and you shouldn't blow any more fuses...preferably, by finding someone with an oscilloscope and setting it that way.

Whats your electrical like? What gauge cables are you running from your battery, and what kind of battery is it? Have you done the BIG 3?

i have good 4 guage wires and a good ground. I have not done the big 3 and my battery is kinda crappy, my dash lights dim when the beat is thumping, could this be a possible problem for the fuses blowing? would a new powerful audio battery cure this? i used to have a capasitor which diddnt make much difference so could it be the ground on my battery?

thanks again

Make sure your cables are tight, and do the big 3 while you're at it. You may not even need a new battery. If you get a new battery, and don't do the big 3, chances are you'll run into electrical problems again. That fancy new battery means nothing if your alternator can't charge it. ;)

So... Big 3, Battery, Alternator, in that order. :)

Edit: And yes, dipping voltage can blow fuses.

14.4 x 60 = 864, assuming 80% efficiency, as it's a class d, total power output would be about 700 watts.

Try lowering your gains, it sounds like you are clipping it.

Thanks for all the help.

I decided i am going to do the big 3 upgrade, it should be helpful in the future when i upgrade my system anyway.

Hopefully this sorts my problem out.

I'll post my results once i am finished with pics vid's etc...

Now all i gotta do is wait for it to stop raining :P
