Custom amp installation

Already ive had this setup in my mind for a while now. The reason for doing this is that I travel alot and sometimes might need my whole trunk. So when im about to go to travel all i would have to do is simply unhook the speaker wires from the sub and now that my amps will be safe. I know alot of people like to have there amps mounted to the back of the seats but if i need to fold my seats down or have stuff in the trunk that might damage the amps i do not want that to happen. Just wondering everyones opinion on how this setup would work. Would they be safe under there? And remain stable when going over speed bumps ect Well here is what i had in mind

edit: also does it matter whether amps are mounted on a flat or slanted surface? I know that the soundstream amp is slanted a little upward. Just wanna make sure that doesnt effect its performance

Just make sure to anchor them down properly and you should have no trouble.

There is always the chance that they might overheat there, but as long as you're not dropping them to an insane ohm load and wanging away on low voltage, you should be fine.

the soundstream will be wired at 1 ohm and the jl will but putting out 4 ohm components i will have the big three upgrade and a bigger alternator in the near future

Sounds good, but I'd recommend you unhook the wires at the amp, not the sub, when you remove the box. Removes any chance of a short.

alright alright. Also does it matter what type of surface they are placed on? As you can tell the soundstream is on half plastic and half carpet. Also does it being at a slight angle effect it at all?

You COULD use a set of quick connect mounts on the top of that plastic to make disconnect easier, but its not commonly considered the best thing for current flow

mounting the amp on an angle won't hurt it, neither will mounting it to plastic/carpet.

like johncon mentioned, all i would worry about is overheating, but if ran correctly, that shouldn't be a problem.

yup as stated the soundstream will be powering 2 ICON 15" at 1 ohm and the JL will be powering my components at 4 ohms a piece

I have little amp mounted on a single 10 sealed. I found a big trailer plug with 6 pins I think since it runs high level input, it works great for pull outs. Never had a problem, it is made to be outside and run all the trailer lights. If you get a larger one, just double up and run two wires for each if you are worried about current flow, or three. This one fits together pretty tight and they only fit one way, a no brainer. Just cover the wire if you are worried about someone seeing those goofy colors... lol. Put the female ends on the amp, or some have a cover for the plug so it can't short.

For that you could always mount a PC fan in there anyplace w/each amp. If you have a relay on the remote just hook it to that. I get the slower speed case fans, they are $1 at some places. They take near no power and I've never had a problem with noise in the remote line from them. IMO I'd be worried about heat in there, and I'd open them up if I played it for a while constant high volume. I've run two amps and a fan off the HU wire, but I don't have a really new HU I've been told they suck for current out of the remote.

i was thinking of drilling holes on the top would that eve help though? something like this

would that help with the air flow and make it cooler?

No point, you won't have any heating issues under there... plenty of airspace & flow already.

godsmack X 2 use a set of male and female connectors as quick disconnects. that jl will never get hot at that ohm load and that soundstream wont either (maybe a little warm) if all else fails install fans (from radioshack) under there and make them look clean but all that will do is circulate the already hot air

You might not, I just like to keep my stuff cool. I also use old amps often, they run warmer than new stuff. Run it and check it, then you know.

well ya i probably was gonna keep it off and when i do need to use my trunk just put it back on, but the soundstream one will have to be covered cause tahts where im placing my sub box
