hello,

i recently got 2 alpine type r's professionally installed in my trunk with a kicker 1000.1 mono amp. It was blasting nd bumping for about 2 weeks then i realized that they needed to be mounted because they moved around too much. I got them mounted and they started to make a strange noise. I took it to the installed nd they "fixed" it by fixing the ground substance or whatever....I turned the car on and the noise is still there.

I took out the "phone line wire" from the amp and it still makes the noise, the installer said it was probably something wrong with the amp but im not too sure...

the subs make a loud croaking nd buzzing sound even when i have them set at 0. And if i crank them, the amp will cut out nd a red light will show up

can anyone help diagnose the problem?

thanks

sounds to me like you have a ground noise... did you mount your amp with screws to the metal? ifso thats you problem. mount your wood to the metel and your amp to the wood, besure that the screws that hold ur amp to the wood do not touchj metel in the rear of the wood

That sounds right, the case of most amps can not be grounded. It not that check the RCAs and the plug for them that it didn't get damaged.

When you turn the amp up all the way it clips and goes into protection... what did you think was going to happen when you turned it up all the way? :idiot:

he had the setup installed by some "professionals" and i'm sure what he ment by cranking it is he's turning his volume up.

to the OP: do you have an aftermarket head unit? if so what kind?

pioneers are known to give a chitty grounding noise in the RCAs that is audible at even no volume, but i don't think that is what is cause your amp to cut out. check all your wiring. remove the subs for any loose connections.

I rest my case.

this is insane. when i meant by cranking them, i meant that i just turned the volume up a little...the controller goes up to 11 and the highest ive ever put it was 6, cuz they are very powerful subs. I have never turned them up all the way, and to

fbi90909: i have a stock headunit from JBL that was a factory upgrade to the car when it was bought.

everything was installed by a pro from tweeter...like i said, everything was working fine until the subs moved around too much and yanked a wire out, the wire was put back in and it makes the weird noise. it is not the installers fault at all.

Sorry just having some fun. I would say the amp has a ground problem, the sub wiring is not right, or the sub amp is trashed. Or maybe one of the subs is broken, I've seen some the magnet fell off. It stays on there due to the magnet holding it but then the VC is rubbing and it is trashed.

So, I would check the ohms of the subs or just hook another up to it and see if it plays....that would tell you if it is a sub problem. You can play it and move the RCA and ground wires a little looking for a short, you can swap the sub amp out to see if it is the amp. If the amp protects, that makes me think the amp or subs/wiring is first place I would look after I verified amp has good ground and power supply. There is an off chance it could be a weird problem like the RCA ground is blown in the processor or HU. I have amps and subs laying around here so it is easier for me to just swap things out to narrow it down.

alright cool thank you...the only thing is, is that it is a stock headunit and it seems to be working fine, but maybe its something internal

My dad also has a avalon with the same headunit and hes never had problems with it so maybe ill just switch it out...

the only thing is is that his avalon has 200k miles on it haha
