Morel Supremo Tweeters

Recommended Posts

I have a pair of the older supreme110's . They are rated at 220w rms with at least a 12db slope at 2200hz. Never did feed them that much power though. 200w on a tweeter is an arse ton of power :)

I have them in a set of book shelves I built for my garage paired with a morel H5.2 . I have the supremes crossed at 2300 hz at 24db. They sound pretty good with a whopping 50w from my old arse pioneer cassceiver lol . :)

Active or custom only you can't buy some off the shelf passive crossover that will work worth a shit. Once active they won't even need 50w.

I say 50w only because that's what my pos is rated at lol . I built custom crossovers for mine . I would say 50w would be more than anyone would ever need. :)

I want to run an active crossover. How exactly does it work? The crossover goes before the amplifier?

Yes most of the time, but sometimes the crossovers on the amps are used :)

My setup is going to be a pioneer 9800bt headunit, morel hybrid ovation's, and a kicker 850.4 amp. Is it possible to run active? Crossover before or after the amp? I know that the kicker amp has high and low pass. Also do all crossovers need a 12volt supply or just running active needs a power and ground?

I'm trying to learn about this so I apologize for my beginner questions. From what i am learning is i dont need to power the morel crossovers that come with that component set, but i have to buy an electronic crossover something like a PPI 2/3 way electronic crossover BNIB?

No need to apologize , everybody has to learn some how my man. :) If I'm not mistaken your head unit has a 3 way crossover built into it ( tweet, mid, and sub ) it would just be a matter of connecting rca's to your amp ( two channels for tweet , two channels for the mids ) and adjusting crossovers. Running active , you won't need the passive crossovers that come with your components.

An outboard crossover ( like the ppi you referenced ) usually requires a 12v constant, a 12v switched turn on lead, and a ground. :)

Ok so i just need to connect the rca's to the amp then from the amp speaker wire right to the tweeter's and mid's and that would run active? Why is the crossover even included then? I thought that connects the tweeter and mid together making it a component speaker.

Because you need something to act as a crossover...with an active setup, it's on the low-level side of things, i.e, before the final power amplification - with passive crossovers, it's on the high-level side...after the amp(s).

i understand that but i am confused with what Ramos said that i don't need the passive crossover that comes with the components.

you wont need the passive xover since your going to be using the h/u's xover in an active setup

If i have a 4 channel amp and i want to run morel comps and coaxials then how would i hook up the front compenents (tweeter and mids) to the amp without using the crossover?

You can't run comps & coaxials, just the comps.

4chn amplifier. One output for L Tweet, R Tweet, L Mid, R Mid

You need to turn on "network" mode on your headunit and then connect the appropriate outputs from the headunit to the amplifier. Pull out your manual and start reading on active crossovers and the settings and then ask some more questions.

Sean is correct , can't get there actively with only 4 channels of power and 6 channels of sound. Boiled down to the the basics. Running an active setup basically means you have adjustable control over each individual driver ( channel), and a seperate channel to power each individual driver. By adjustable control I mean you can adjust crossover point and slope , time delay if you have it ( you have it ), and ideally even eq'ing individual drivers. You can run what you have from the single 4 channel amplifier, but you can't do it actively. So you can't use all of the benefits your head unit affords you like the time alignment and crossover functions most of the time. Active would give you the best control over the system, which with a lot of tuning can mean better overall sound. To install what you have passively. You can two channels of the amp for the components, and two channels for the coaxials. you would also need to use the passive crossover's with your components, and probably the highpass crossover of the amp on the coaxxials................ Honestly though, I would ditch the coaxials all together. The morels are a ridiculously nice set of components. 100w per driver is gonna be plenty of headroom, and with proper installation of your components will make you forget about those coaxials you didn't install really quickly :)

Yeah i think i will try out the front components without the coaxial. Probably run the Comps off a Sundown 100.4. Thanks for the help guys.
