Looking for a sub that will work well in a small sealed enclosure.

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a 12'' subwoofer to work well in a .7 to 1 cuft enclosure before speaker displacements. Getting about 1000RMS. I listen to a lot of 80% rap and 20% rock and possibly some techno here and there. I was aiming for a Fi Q 12 but i was told that there are subs around that work really well in small sealed enclosures. I want it to be as loud as possible. I also have had a RE SX 12 in a .6 sealed box after displacements. It did really well and sounded clean but it got pretty warm. I'm just exploring my options. Any feedback on woofers is greatly appreciated! Thanks

You should be looking at the Soundsplinter RL-p, although.. I think I might be flipping around what it needs (might be a small ported box instead of small sealed).

Either way, .6ft^3 is a damn small amount of space for a 12".

If you want it to be as loud as possible you need a bigger box. No 12 likes a space that small for a loud install.

If you can't go bigger you need to go to a 10.

Well im in a single cab with a bench seat. I'd like to pull the bench out and replace them with bucket seats. Then build a ported box for one 12 from the back wall to the dash but im having trouble getting hold of a set that will match my dark red/maroon interior. I can build a box to put behind the seat but then i have issuses with sub depth and sub excursion because i don't want to ride on the steering wheel. The depth of 5.75 of my Fi X 12's work out nice but they aren't as loud as i'd like. I know i could fit a deeper 10 inch woofer behind the seat because of being able to position the sub lower on a wedge box. Only thing with this is that im concerned with the sound of a 10 inch woofer.

To say that you're concerned with the sound of a 10" woofer... is well wrong.

Please tell me what difference a 10 vs a 12 will be.

basically what I'm getting at is, as long as you build a proper box, a 10" woofer will have just as much output as any other size woofer. Enclosure is KEY to getting excellant sound and volume from your woofer.

Build the box wrong and I'll beat it with a shitty ebay 8" in a correct box.

I see... thanks for your input. I'm new at all of this!

what he says is true, that why u see people who take the time to build a proper box for 2 15"s ported or bandpassed or something and because the enclosure is near perfect they are able to beat out competitors with 2x as many woofers, on 2x the amount of watts. Now in this case it is spl related, and i do understand other factors such as dampening metal and sealing everything up nice and tight is important, as well as power but u still understand what i mean. I agree with before statement wait till new mags are out.

idea for at least a temporary box. I built this one for a 10" and it has about .7 cu ft and as you can see, a better build could get you a few more, not to mention you might get away with 1/2" MDF or fiberglass to reach or even break 1 cu ft
