Reconing BTL

Recommended Posts

I have 2 15s btl.

1 is dual 1 ohm, measured 1.5ohm on each coil.(working) both 2 magnet motor.

2nd is d2 , measured 2.5 ohm. (blown)

d1 sub, the pole is black color , i think that means its universal.

d2 sub blown, doesnt have black colored pole.

Question is can i recone d2 with 1 ohm recone kit to match my other btl, and will they have same specs?

plz help me out.

any truth to the black pole = universal?

this would answer the question ive been having for a while now.

edit: hmm some more searching seems to suggest the black pole is actually a teflon coating used to reduce noise from the former rubbing on the pole

We never did the teflon...

It's painted black so it doesn't rust, they are all black.

I told you everything i knew about the motor a few months ago, and that's still all i know about it. The dual 2ohm gap is the universal gap, if you have a dual 1ohm coil in it now, and it was ordered as dual 1's, then that is the 'spl' gap.

Thanks

you never told me it was the spl gap nick. you just said if it was a dual 1 motor using the dual 1 coil would be just fine, but that wasnt my question, i was just trying to see if there was a way to use deductive reasoning to see if i had an spl motor or a daily optioned motor. i just quit bugging you because i figured i had emailed you enough times to drive you nuts. not trying to be a pest here bro :(

But it's not going to wear the coil out so long as you use a dual 1ohm coil...kenny used them for music, you should beable to do the same fine.

The dual 2ohm coil will not fit...

I have serached and searched for info on these motors... Best I found is that they are daily D1 motors and probably not a universal gap on them.

D1s will definitely fit in that motor. There are a couple of differences though... the SPL tolerences are set by both the pole OD and the top plate ID. They are both tighter than the daily setup.

For a D2 coil the top plate ID would be the same as the SPL tolerence, but since the pole is "daily" it would rub big time. Only safe coil to use in them is the D1 (or some of the SPL coils).

Sorry if that confuses matters more :(

Thanks,

Scott

its ok Scott. i ended up selling it back to the original owner. so alls well that ends well.

now lets see....should i pick up 15" bl's to replace the 18" bl's i had? or maybe a single 18" btl to replace the 15" i had....hmmm ;)

of course brand new though, so i know the options on them lol
