Why do they sound like butt?

I built my bro a box to house two CDT EF 8" subs. The box is tiny but meets the minimum recommended volume. If the bass is turned up much, whether it be by volume knob, gain, or bass knob, the subs have a high pitched electronic noise. This goes away if one sub is taken out. The only thing I can think of is that the 3" of space between the two magnets is not enough and are causing distortion. Any other possibilities?

Oh yea, the subs face away from eachother so the magnets are back to back.

motors that close shouldn't cause noise. when you say if you remove one it goes away, do you always remove the same one, or does it matter?

are all of your h/u sub connections (like grounds, rcas) good and solid?

It's not going to be a problem with the subs. It's going to be a problem with the signal path somewhere upstream from there. "electronic type" noise is not caused by the speakers.

Did your brother install/run the RCA cables down the same side of the vehicle as the power cable for the amplifier?That can almost always cause signal noise or signal iterference.

I don't think that's the problem though but it could be worth a check.

no it won't. unless there is shielding missing on something. something would have to be physically wrong with the cables for enough noise to be picked up and heard.

Not to mention a HUGE ripple on the power from the alt (bad rectifier or battery might cause this but usually it still isn't picked up by the signal cables but gets in through the power supply itself).

most people don't realize a bad battery can introduce, rather, allow noise to be introduced.

He complained earlier about some interior light problems he was having (not sure on specifics) from when he changed the map lights and dome light to led's. I think the problem is that they are very dim without the engine out. Maybe you guys are onto something with this bad battery nonsense....never knew that would cause noise.

teh battery acts as a noise filter for the alternator. bad battery= bad filter= noise in the system. i'm sure helo or ///m5 can explain the reasons why a lot better then myself, so i'll just leave you with that layman's explaination.

no, he has a 4 door tacoma so there is very little room for anything. It sits on the ground right behind the center console...basically its at the feet of what would be the middle passenger in the back

well while waiting on sean about this in phase / out of phase stuff.... Kent, any easy way to test if the battery is acting as a good filter or not?

I was right about those LED lights too. They are extremely dim unless the motor is running. Yea that sounds like a battery problem, except he put the reg lights back in and they are fine. Led's are 1w and reg's are around 10w i believe.....hmmmmm

That could easily be explained by the voltage of the LED's. If they're not 12v LED's they'll be very dim.

yep that's what he's talking about , with your motor to motor enclosure , wiring them out of phase may help.
