Two 15" BL's w/ Sundown SAZ-3000D or Colossus

Recommended Posts

I am thinking of buying a 95-01 4 DR Blazer or 95-01 Explorer 4 dr and I want to start off with two 15" BL's (dual 1 ohm) ported and for the amp either a Sundown SAZ-3000D or a Hifonics Colossus.

I was reading and the BL's seem to be what I want...The Q's are the Sound Quality woofer and The BTL is the all out SPL BASS MONSTER,and the SSD being the entry level woofer the BL' claims to fill the gap between the Q and the BTL.

What ratio of SPL/SQ would you say the 15" BL's fit.Right now I have two 12" Type R's and they sound alright to me and get loud but I want more bass and better.I want those head craking hits and those low nut jumping shakes.I listen to lots of Metal Like All That Remains,As I lay Dying,Killswitch Engage and I listen to rap like Three Six Mafia and the such.

Which amp would be a better choice, the SAZ-3000D or the Colossus?

Would either of these amps with these two subs achieve what I am looking for?

My stomach turns sour thinking about any Hifonics anything.

As for your question on the drivers and the ratio of SQ to SPL, it is really 100% box dependent; however, I will add that if you think the Type R's sound okay you are going to be more than happy with the BL. They are worlds better than what you currently have.

A lot / not a lot.

Alright so no Hifonics then....do you think the Sundown SAZ-3000D will be too much for two 15" BL's?What options should I get with the BL's?

There are a good number of people running a single BL with a Sundown 1500D if that tells you anything. If you are worried about sheer output and the subs taking the power, the options (if I was in your shoes) for the BL's would be probably flatwound coil, and maybe cooling, if you are going to pound on them for long periods of time.

Sounds good.I'll be needing to get a H.O. Alt. aswell and I saw Mean Green has them for $400 but how big of an alternator will I need?

Also seeing as there will be 3kw RMS dedicated to the substage what kind of power range should I be looking at for my highs/midrange?

SSDs are anything from entry level subs BTW. FI just doesnt offer there entry level anymore, cause they wasnt selling well. To cheap, I guess. People would just step up and buy something else.

As far as a 3000d on bl's, youll be fine. Make sure to get dual1s and wire them all to 1ohm.

200amp alt and a extra battery would be needed for teh 3000d, AT LEAST.

what ever you do dont use hifonics!!!!!!!!!!!! i have 2 fully loaded fi audio bl's sweet sub, but i first powered them with a hifonics goliath 5000watt... i just bought it, put it in the shop for a new driver board, and 16 mosfits, got it back droped it in at 1 ohm and poped it its sitting at the shop now.. waiting.. again, for ANOTHER driver board and some more mosfits, there is one maxxonics ( the mother company that makes hifonics) repair shop in the US, and its CIA.... great people but maxxonics is so slow in there thinking, thay order say 2000 driver board when there going to build 2000 amps... but what about the repair parts when these amps have problems, thay have to make them! that takes a very long time,

hifonics no! NO! save your self the time and money.

I'm pretty sure the SSD's are the entry level sub....In the beggining all I ever saw were the SSD's the Q's and The BTL's.

SSD being your typical daily driver and you're Q being your SQ driver and BTL being an all out SPL monster.

yep dual 1 ohm voice coils each sub wired at 0.5 ohms and then wired in series to the amp for a 1 ohm load.

any ideas on what I should dedicate to mids/highs power wise?

ummm No sir. FI has a series called X. That was there entry level sir.

SSD is a 800rms entry level. lol.

Teh X series didnt sell well, cause of teh rest of teh lines not costing a whole lot more.

Get your facts straight.

Honestly If you were to use the SSDs you would have WWWAAAYYY more than anyones type Rs ever thought of and the SPL/SQ would be a yes/yes. While your at it you could then use a SUNDOWN 1500 and spend less on electrical settup! Basically you could save alot of money and have exactly what your looking for. The SSD is the REAL DEAL Evander Holyfield of subs. It's taken me ahwhile to commit to the SSDs myself over the Qs BLs and BTLs but thanks to this forum, my ears, and some great demos I KNOW the truth and my friend the truth will set you free!!! Not knockin the others they all have their applications. You like alot of rock and money isn't an issue? Go ahead w/ the Sundown 3000 and run 4 SSD 12s. You'll be the happiest rocker around and still be able to drop that Late Night Tip. My Bday is in July if you wanna send me a card......lol......but seriously. SQPL is what I'm all about!!! PM me if you'd like.

How much power should I be looking to dedicate to my midbass/highs?

I've been looking at some older Focal and Morel 6.5" components.

I must admit I am more a basshead then an SQ guy but LSQ is nice but I think the BL's are more of an SPL woofer over the SSD's but I could be wrong....a word from Scott or NDMstang65 would be nice.....

4 ssd's do have more cone area the 2 15" BL's regardless if I got 12" SSD's or not but my future plan was adding two more BL's and another Sundown SAZ-3000D (HO Alt/Big 3 in 0 guage,Kinetics will all be done with first two BL's) and more batts if necessary.

SSDs are for you bro. No question.

Then if you still have an itch to buy a second 3000 buy 4 more 12s. SSD of course!!!
