I know many are wondering, What the 250.2 update?

Recommended Posts

Hey jacob, i know several people on here are really looking foward to the 250.2 that will be released in near future, but whats the update on the amp and the stage it in before it hits production?

I decided to move away from looking into the spl lanes and hit up the sq lanes because trunk cars are pretty hard to get loud and i think this amp will be perfect for powering two subs using an a/b class amp for possibly mounting 2 12's or so IB or possibly sealed.

just looking for a few things like what time frame we're looking at for preorders and when it should all be available to public.

If my brother desides not to use some PDX amps (worried about space and mounting on top of each other is good option) then im sure he could use this amp as well for a back up alternative.

So pretty much many of us are wanting to no and i just decided to find out for myself =].

TY again, for making kickass products and providing quality service, my 100.2, 100.4 and 1000D proto (1st proto you sent me) are all trucking along as expected.

Mike-

The 250.2 needed several things before release vs. the prototype.

1) I had to tool a new crossover board to get the features I wanted -- that is done.

2) I had to tool a new heat-sink to make it run cool enough bridged -- that will be done in January and will first appear on the 3000D. It will make it's way to all other SAX and SAZ amps as time goes on.

Once those are done then I can actually move towards making it production.

=[ so we're looking at around what maybe late march early april?

Probably something like that.

Many of my woofer projects continue to get delayed (see 8" woofer thread) so perhaps I can push it up a little, we'll have to see.

Damn. Here I was having fun poking him in the eye and someone had to just go and ask the question...

That's good news though, Jacob. Any idea on pricing yet? I need to know how much to have laying around for the pre-order.

About $549 MSRP. Pricing on pre-orders is as yet to be determined, will likely be in the low to mid 400s.

PS: The new crossover will have the following features:

Subsonic @ 10 Hz - 500 Hz

HPF @ 30 - 3000 Hz (30 - 300 with x10 switch)

LPF @ 50 - 5000 Hz (50 - 500 with x10 switch)

Bass Boost @ 35 - 120 Hz variable w/ 0 - 18 dB boost

You can easily bandpass a midbass / midrange driver with these features.

I also went from 50 amp to 70 amp transistors from prototype to production in the power supply as well as going from 63 volt to 80 volt capacitors. The proto didn't have any problems with these parts, but hey, thats how I roll :)

Don't need the crossover most likely for the planned install but the beefed up transistor and caps sound yummy.

250 x 2 @ 4 ohms

500 x 2 @ 2 ohms

1000 x 1 @ 4 ohms

12.8 volts.

sounds like i found the class a/b amp ill be using for 2 idq v3's =] instead of 2 sax 100.2's of course was the other option =] either way it would been more sundown amps, but in case of taking up room, "less is more"

Hmm, you finally got my attention as you have a real nice 3 way solution:

100.4 for the mids & tweets

250.2 for the midbasses and sub

Exactly optimal power for the whole deal, now I just need to find a new car so I can run the sub IB and get them.

It is for sale as of December 3rd, but we could arrange to do something sooner :)

Indeed :) It will be a good option for many people looking for a large, beefy Class A/B amp.

any update on these? i didn't know they were going to do 1000 bridged. this is the perfect solution for my build 250 x 2 front stage, 1000 x 1 sub. put me down for 2.

When there is more info it will be posted -- quite a few things are coming out, can't do them all at once :) The release date of the 250.2 depends on how strong sales are, I'd like to get them out by 2Q to 3Q this year.

Thats been my idea for the longest time lol. I didn't realize it will be 1000 bridged, thats some serious kapow!

For me it will be

100.4 - Mids and Tweets

250.2 - Mibbass

1500 or 250.2 - Subs (depending on which wiring config is best)

Thats makes way for some serious damn headroom. 900 Watts available to the front stage alone =)

You got me curious on these new heatsinks though. Will the amps look very different?

They won't, I like the look too much to change it drastically.

The sides will have a couple more fins (very minor change), still the same size.

The amps will be 10mm taller to make room for a bunch of fins UNDER the face of the amp.

The face will look the same except the part number is mirrored in the opposite corner so when you flip the aluminum bar it still look the same as before.

great idea about the mirrored part number. i wish there were a way for me to have done that with the sax 100.2 flipped with a 100.4 so both power terminal opening are facing each other

will the 250.2 be same length as the sax 100.4 and 1500D?

The 100.4 and 1500D are actually *slightly* different in length, and the 250.2 is longer than either of them by a small amount.

If I upgrade my front stage I might get a 250.2 to match my 1500 or 3000. I haven't made up my mind on which one but I'm leaning toward the 3000D because of no dimming issues with my VLX.
