How low will a Q go

Recommended Posts

All enclosure dependent, but pretty much as low as any other car woofer you have ever seen.

going off your signature...im thinking you mean the Fs and just missed it maybe? otherwise I am confused, haha

DUAL 1 | DUAL 2

Fs: 28.4 Hz | 27.1 Hz

thats for a 12" Q

Nope, lower than that. I meant what I said, enclosure dependent.

Ported - 2.2 cu ft (after displacement) tuned to 32 Hz

Reason I ask was I wanted to know if a amp I was looking at (Kicker Zx1500.1) could play anything the sub can handle because it can only play 20 Hz and up compared to my SAZ-1500D which does 10 Hz and up.

You wouldnt want it to in that box, once you go below a boxes tuning frequency the driver begins to unload which is like running it free air

You should set the subsonic one octave below the tuning frequency

With a ported enclosure tuned to 32Hz, you won't be able to tell the difference anyway because 1) that's over an octave under tuning, there's going to be next to no output that low and 2) unless you're a fan of Baroque or the 1812 Overture, there really isn't a lot of music that goes that deep.

Reproducing 10Hz with any kind of authority takes very large enclosures or infinite baffle arrangements...and usually more than one Q :)

Scott designed the box for me (thanks again Scott lol great SQ) it's suppose to be the best mix of SQ and a little SPL for the Q and told me to set the subsonic around 28-30.

Like I said I was just curious about what the Q could do, thanks for all the responses.

Oh and just so you know, you can't hear 20hz I'd bet anyways ;)

Wrong end of the spectrum, those are above human hearing :)

Very likely the only way you'll hear 20Hz is playing will be harmonics caused by the environment.
