Building my first ported box

Well, I'm off to home depot to get my wood. Hopefully sometime during this trip, I will decide between upfiring and downfiring haha.

Last questions, for now...... will the carpet on the floor muffle the sound enough to the point where upfiring might actually have more output (especially since there is only about 1" of clearance)

Is there any point in tilting the sub so that it fires toward the opening? This would sacrifice clearance on the other end of the sub though.
