This was taken on one of my last gigs in Nevada. We got a little creative with Photoshop. Not a big fan of the rainbow, but whatever.

EDIT: got rid of the rainbow and Maynard.

Herbie Mann ftw.

So as a trumpeter who are your favorite artists?

My bread and butter is the military band, but I do lots of freelance stuff in the San Fran/Sac area with several Salsa bands.

This is a really tuff question to answer. There are so many great trumpeters in the world of all genre's.

Latin music:

Perez Prados' trumpet section. These guys were monsters on the horn. Perez's band was one of the first bands I had ever heard. My mom used to play his records all the time at home.

Jesus Alemany from the group Cubanissmo. He's a master of modern latin trumpet.

Serafin Aquilar. Trumpeter for Poncho Sanchez. This big boy has go some great lead chops.

Big Band Lead:

Wayne Bergeron lead trumpet with the Big Phat Band. WOW!!! If you've gone to the movies in the last 10years, you've heard Wayne. Check out The Incredibles soundtrack. Wayne has a few solo albums out also that are wonderful. He is THE hottest trumpeter in the LA scene.

Bill Chase. Had a great band in the 60's and 70's. Check his stuff out, it's different.

Stan Kenton's lead trumpeters (too many to list)

Solo:

Armstrong, Dizzy, Roy Eldridge, Clifford Brown (one of my favorite out of the bunch), Freddie, Miles and Maynard.

This list could go on and on. I guess my favorite trumpeter is different for different times in my life. I listened to lots of Clifford Brown in graduate school. Maynard was the only trumpeter I really listened to in high school seriously. Now that I'm out in the Bay Area, I get to play with some great players and probably consider many of them my favorite. Hard question.

I can't leave out my classical buddy's.

Rafael Mendez

Bud Herseth (former principal of the Chicago Symphony)

Phil Smith- principal of the New York Phil

Maurice Andre

Dokschitzer

Sam Trimble-my former teacher in Texas

This list could go on. Enough for now....

wow, i played the trumpet for 6 years and don't have a clue who those guys are. shit, there is still a trumpet in the house which i pick up every now and again to help the boy out. he's a drummer 1st and trumpetier last. i whoop his ass on the horn though, lol, he kills me with the snare. (it's too cool listening to him play)

anyway, nice to see someone who really knows music around here (hehe) and the second pic is cool.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:
