$150 for a set of decent components is totally doable. What will you be powering them with?

Here are a few from SonicElectronix that fit within your price range.

I've heard all three and they're all good passive sets. They won't blow away anybody remotely concerned with SQ, but they still will sound good for a ground pounder system.

You may be able to find them cheaper elsewhere, so make sure to shop around.

Pioneer TS-C160R

Memphis 15-MSYNC6

Alpine SPR-17S

Nope, the capability of getting louder is going to be unlocked in your install and setup and not by swapping out drivers. They should be pretty comparable.

Components are much easier to do decent IMHO.

To perfect.. well that's not your goal... but Beleive me I'm a moron and I can figure out some component installs. Maybe you could ask a friend who has done it before for help or some of the guys on this board. They canj walk you through it.

You will get a better results in the end if you are open to learn and DIY. If the speakers are the same size it wouldn't take more than an hour at most and then you would know what is going on.

Good luck either way. Shops scare me personaly, I don't think any are reputable at least in my area currently unless they are verry verry low key and I have never heard of them.

As much as I hate CarAudio.com, there's a pretty decent writeup there in the Speakers subsection, titled "Sound Deadening and You"...that goes over the basics on installing speakers properly. It's not just as simple as slapping them into compatible holes, but it's not out of reach for a beginning DIYer either...you can handle this.

Yea components are pretty easy. and the only way you are going to get any better at any installs is trial and error. You will never get any better and still not know what you are doing if you don,t at least attempt it.

The real advice is to spend 2x what you did on your speakers on the install.
