Your opinions...

Recommended Posts

I've got a '94 single cab sonoma that all this is going in. This is my second stereo, last one got jacked.

Amp: Crunch PowerZone 4-Channel Amplifier (PZi175.4).

Sub: Dayton RSS265HF-4 10" Reference HF Subwoofer 4 Ohm 350w RMS.

Tweets: Morel MDT-12 1-1/8" Neodymium Tweeter 80w

Mids: Dayton Classic DC130-8 6" 50w

Crossover: Dayton XO2W-3K 2-Way Crossover 3,000 Hz

Box will be roughly 2 cubes ATLEAST. Still working on the design in a ported box. Opinions?

Not a fan of the amp, I'd find a used vintage model from a quality manufacturer well before I went with Crunch...

The speakers themselves aren't bad, but I'd skip the passive crossover and go active. There's no way a fixed 3k crossover is going to be optimal for every install, active bi-amping is the only way to go IMO if you're piecing together drivers in a vehicle.

What do you have for a head unit?

I don't know the model number, but its the new model of the DEH_ 4800MP. So maybe 5900i? Its about 200, or 210.

Talking to someone, I think I'm going to go active. Any suggestions on the crossover?

Audiocontrol, Coustic, and a bunch of other manufacturers make suitable 2-way crossovers.

I'm not sure if that head unit has active capability or not, you might consider just swapping that for a unit that has the Xovers built in, instead of adding a seperate one. That's just a personal choice, whatever's easier to adjust to you...

You'd have to add another amp for the sub, you'd need a four channel and a mono or something bridgeable to mono...if budget's an issue, I'd look for quality used gear.

Haha, thanks.

Anyways, for amps, what do you suggest? I think I'm going to go with the Pioneer 880 maybe? That'll fit right? But should I get a 5 way?

The Pio 880 will do all the Xover stuff you need.

You could go with a 5-channel amp, yeah...but those are harder to find and usually more expensive. But if you can find a deal on a good one go for it.

What's your budget for amps? That'll pretty much determine where to look...

For everything, I'd like to spend about 650, maybe 700. If that helps at all. Sub, mids, and tweets come to about $240. With HU, comes to about $540.

5 or 6 channels is going to be a bit hard for $110 and you really, really should spend some money on sound deadening

I'm severly caught between active and passive right now. Seems alot of money is spent with the 880 to get the active, alot of money that maybe I'm not seeing why I should go active.

Flexibility. It's just a night and day difference in terms of how you can adjust things, to get the drivers working together properly.

You could get the same results with a passive, but by the time you've spent the money on swapping out components and testing, you could have bought several 880's.

$700 is a tight budget...:(

I know what you mean, but I'm just starting and I'm in highschool with a small job with the 'rents slowing me down. Honestly, would putting in a component system with passive crossovers really sound that much worse than active and not much better than coaxials?
