sundown + btl?

Recommended Posts

ok so i'm about ready to buy my amps. i will have 4 15" fully loaded 1 ohm btl's in about 16 cubes tuned to 32hz. but before i buy the amps...can a 3000d handle a pair of fully loaded btl's @ 1ohm? only time it will get turned up loud will be for competition burps. maybe to turn up for demos for friends :D. other than that it'll be regular volume, so nothing strenuous.

i have a 200 amp H/O alt atm, couple extra batteries (will upgrade to some kinetiks in the future), and i'm getting a solid 14.3/14.4 volts. i may try to add another alt if money allows.

also...would bass race be out of the question with this setup? to prevent burning up the amps? i'm kinda going out on a limb buying these amps cuz i've never heard one in person, but if i like them, i'll most likely get another pair and strap them to each pair.

thanks :)

A 3000D @ 1 ohm will power two BTLs nicely, yes.

For SPL burps and bassrace you can also run them at 1/2 ohm nominal... as long as you upgrade that electrical system. I have 7x Powermaster D3100s and 2x 200-amp alternators to run my 4x 3000Ds @ 1/2 ohm :)

ooooh nice. what all else would be needed to run at .5 ohms? i'm definitely going to add some batteries. and another 200 or more amp alt down the road, or upgrade to a much bigger alt altogether.

i am pretty sure i will be ready to buy these in the next day or two. how can i go about purchasing a pair?

Contact one of my dealers -- the SSA store is an authorized dealer.

Be advised that 1/2 ohm is not a warrantied load and I suggest using it for SPL competition only. People do run these at 1/2 ohm daily but I cannot cover you under warranty doing so. If you are okay with that then I suggest two alternators and as many batteries as you can fit for four at 1/2 ohm -- most likely you will never have a problem.

ya Ive ran my 3000d at 1/2 ohm daily for a couple of monthes but Ive got a 200 amp alt a powermaster D2400 under the hood and I had 2 kinetik 800s in the rear connected togeteher with 6 runs of 1/0g wire but I recently replaced the 2 800s with an Alpha Cell 180GXL and even at low volumes it seems louder

i have a 200 amp ohio gen alternator, if you have 2 alts for 4 3000d's, then my alt should hold do me for now, right? for only getting 2 3000d's. but i'll check into those batts. i have an 01 explorer sport with the back seats out. the box is big, but i'm sure i can fit plenty of batteries in there.

if they can be run at .5 ohms safely with the right electrical system, then i'll probably run the amps at 1 ohm for each pair. should be able to handle the high loads then for burps/bass race from the looks of it. i dont see any comps around here happening till probably spring time, so i have time to upgrade it.

i'm gonna try to be a serious competitor. basically want a LOUD mofo daily driver, with the ability to go to comps and walk away with a trophy or two :)

the Alpha Cell may be a bit difficult to find I got mine off of a fellow compedator at a show your going to need at least 2 0f them for 2 3000ds just keep an eye on your voltage and if it gets a bit low back off on it
