old JL 10 value?

Recommended Posts

I found an old JL 10 for sale, didn't see a number on it. Looks like it was reconed or something but ok job. Motor is near as big as the hole it would go in, its heavy. Kind of well used looking but new JL dustcap and maybe foam on it, it is all black and stamped looking frame....any idea of value? Not sure what I could do with only one. It has thick paper gasket on top edge that is torn up some, the rest is not bad.

Right, paper cone and a mostly black sticker on the motor. Has a SS looking screen in the pole vent, black wrap on the magnets. I might be able to get it cheap and use it someplace. I'm really not familiar with them and don't know what they can put out. I was wanting to build a sonotube ported some day for fun. I should go look at it again more closely.

Could be a w0 in which case it is probably in the $25 range

I looked up some pics, It looks like a W0 the cone/cap is the same except it has a big magnet on it like the W3. Of course those might not be pics of 10s even though they look the same as the ones under 10 listings.

The upper right one in this pic is very close: http://www.radiomancaraudio.com/jl-audio.html but the cap in pic might be larger diameter. It certainly has a larger motor structure than the W0 in that pic, by far.

Want to make a 12" tube with a 4" port and one 10 or 12, maybe ~2cf for a 10 or whatever gets down at least to 40Hz good. If I go too low I'll get no db out of only one driver.

here's some pics of my old set up of the old 12" W6s. I'm not sure what yours look like but these are what the W6 looks like so you can compare it.

Those two black center ones on table, it looks exactly like those as far as the motor/basket, but its a 10 so the basket looks a little smaller. I have to get back with the guy and see what kind of deal he will make...$25?

If those are indeed old W6s, then you cannot go wrong with buying it for $25. Great subs, IMO. I'm not sure how they stack up against the current 10" subs on the market, but I'm pretty sure they can destroy most or all subs that's $25. As far as finding out for sure if it's a W6, at the bottom of the motor, my subs says "JL 12W6".

One thing to keep in mind about those subs is that the surround is foam. So depending on how old the sub is, it may end up deteriorating on you. I bought my W6s used back in 97. It lasted me until 05 when the surround started to come off. I was able to find a place online that sold surrounds though (and I had to also change the center cap, so no JL picture, and still work.

Also, if you end up with this W6, you need to know it's a dual 6 ohm sub. So, unless you have three subs, the ohm load is going to be weird.
